Dream Theme

Dreaming of blindness
Vinaya Katoch Manhas

There’s none so blind as they that won’t see. — Swift

PSYCHOLOGICALLY speaking, this is true for those who generally tend to perceive themselves as blind in dreams. It is basically a desire to not confront a reality that can hurt you.

As per Indian thought, for a person in love to see himself blind is a clear indication of the fact that he or she has made a wrong choice in selecting her/his future spouse. Should you see someone else blind then it foretells that you will stand to lose friends.

You may also have to face problems in the future. But otherwise for a person to see himself blind is a good omen.

As per western thought, to see oneself blind denotes a sudden change in fortune, from affluence to abject poverty. To see others blind foretells that some worthy person shall come to you for help. To see yourself blindfolded means that disturbing elements shall bother you. You shall be the cause of disappointment to others. You shall face humiliation and also stand to lose money.

Psychoanalytically speaking, to see ourselves blind in dreams denotes our unwillingness to face some fact.

We are not able to perceive certain qualities that exist in us. Intellectually we may be aware of certain facts, but choose to not use that knowledge in an appropriate way.

To see oneself blindfolded is an indication of a deliberate attempt being made to keep us in the dark about certain matters. If we see ourselves blindfolding others then we are not being honest in our dealings with others. It could also denote a desire in us to retreat from the world.

Spiritually speaking, blindness portrays ignorance. A woman would often dream of herself walking in pitch dark, unable to see anything.

She would call out to other members in her family to switch on the light. They would simply tell her that it was broad daylight so there was no need to switch on the light. She would shout that she couldn’t see a thing.

All her family members would then start screaming that she had gone blind. She would wake up scared.

The reason for this dream, it seemed, lay in her desire to withdraw from the daily grind of life.

Life had become very busy with her two teenage sons, in-laws and husband, all depending on her for running the house. In the evenings she would be busy taking dance classes. The dream simply portrayed a desire to withdraw, to get away from the hectic schedule.
