Sajal, Nadia win table tennis titles

Chandigarh, July 13
Sajal Kaushal of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35, in the boys’ section, while Nadia Saini of DAV Public School in the girls’ section bagged titles on the second day of the Prof R.S. Mehta Memorial Table Tennis Tournament Played here today. In the sub-juniors’ section, Dev Saini of DAV Public School, Sector 8, and Nadia Saini clinched the boys and girls’ section titles, respectively.

Results: sub-junior: boys: Dev Saini b Prateek Gupta 4-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-7, 11-5. Girls: Nadia Saini b Guneet 11-6, 11-4, 11-6, 11-8. Junior section: Sajal Kaushal b Aditya Puri 7-11, 1-11, 11-9, 11-3, 11-8, 11-5. Girls: Nadia Saini b Arshdeep Kaur 10-12, 11-3, 11-5, 14-16, 11-2, 11-9.

Cricket meet

Maa Saraswati Cricket Club defeated Dainik Bhaskar by seven wickets in the LG Cup Cricket Tournament played here on Saturday. In other matches of the day, High Court XI beat Panchkula Coaching Centre by 30 runs, Godrej Cricket Club outplayed JJ Sports Club by 24 runs.

The Chandigarh Tug of War Association has selected four boys and six girls for the final trials going to be held at Nakodar on July 21. These players are: boys: Arshdeep Singh, Rakesh Sharma, Sukhpreet Singh and Parampal Singh. Girls: Satinder Kaur, Jasbir Kaur, Pinki Rani, Neetu, Balwinder Kaur and Harvinder Kaur.

Pannu is chief patron of players’ welfare body

Chandigarh, July 13
Arjuna awardee Kanwal Thakar Singh Pannu, a former Commonwealth Games medallist and winner of several national titles in badminton, has agreed to be the Chief Patron of the Chandigarh Badminton Players Welfare Association.

According to Ms Geeta Aggarwal, president of the association, budding players in the city would benefit from her expertise. She said Ms Pannu had given a new twist to women badminton in this region. She added that she had also been good in studies and secured a gold medal in Masters in History from Panjab University.

Ms Pannu appreciated the efforts of the association in promoting badminton and doing other activities to boost badminton here.
