Legislation soon to control private nursing homes

Alwar, July 5
In a move to streamline the functioning of nursing homes and clinics, the Rajasthan Government is planning to bring a legislation in the Assembly, which would curb the fleecing of patients by the medical practitioners.

The visiting state Health Minister, Mr Madhav Singh, told newspersons last evening here that the government had already received the S. R. Mehta committee report on the issue of controlling nursing homes and clinics and would be handed over to the Chief Minister, Mr Ashok Gehlot, on Wednesday.

On the basis of the report, the minister said, a legislation would be drafted and brought before the Assembly soon to have a check on the charges levied by private nursing homes and clinics for their services.

The private nursing homes and clinics would not be allowed to “fleece” patients by charging exorbitantly, he said. The minister also ordered the removal of local Medical Officer Amar Singh Rathore on receiving public complaints against him, official sources said.

DPS-Farakka win ESPN School Quiz

DPS-Farakka won the ESPN School Quiz 2002 to emerge the all-India winners. They won both the first and second National finals. DPS-Farakka bagged a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh.

While the cash prize will be utilised by the school to improve the sporting facilities in the school, the winning team members, Suvojit Chakraborty and Rahul Mukherjee, will be flown to any major international sporting event of their choice from events featured on either ESPN or Star Sports.

In both the National finals, DPS Farakka beat Loyola School from Thiruvanathapuram (Kerala) and Mt. St. Mary’s School of Delhi. In the first National final, Mt. St. Mary’s logged five points while Loyola failed to open their account.

However, in the second National final, Loyola secured 35 points while Mt. St. Mary’s got only 23 points. The ESPN School Quiz showcased the best of sporting quizzing talent from around the country. As many as 108 schools came through a tough selection process to feature on this Television show. To start with, over 2000 teams from 17 cities had to get past a written test. On-ground quizzes were also conducted in six cities in the search for the best talent.

The 27 top teams from each of the four zones — North, South, East and West —were selected for the final phase of “On-Air” quizzing, giving each one of the 216 students a chance to test their knowledge of sports against the best competition in the country..

Managing director of ESPN Manu Sawhney said this show provided a unique opportunity for the sports-loving students to pit their knowledge against the best talent across the country and bring pride and glory to their institution.

“It was a huge humbling experience to watch these kids quiz — their knowledge of sports is truly amazing”, he added..

Host of the show Harsha Bhogle said, “Our experience with the show has been highlighted by the brilliance of the school kids and their depth of knowledge on international sports”. The teams who won the national semi-finals got Rs 2 lakh each.

Scindia Cricket Academy beat Dronacharya

Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Academy, Gwalior beat Dronacharya Cricket Foundation by 21 runs in a limited overs match played at the Yamuna Sports Complex ground in the Capital.

Scindia Academy won the toss and elected to bat. Powered by an electric knock of 58 off 45 balls with nine fours by Ashwani Sharma, Scindia Academy raced to 178 all out in 40 overs. A six for 32 spell by Surjeet Singh and 2 for 20 by Ankush Raghav bowled well for the Dronacharya Cricket Academy.

But the Dronacharya Academy failed to tackle the effective bowling of Aushtosh and Yudhvir Singh and were all out for 157 in 36 overs.

Scores: Madhavrao Scindia Academy: 178 all out in 40 overs (Ashwani Sharma 58, 4x9; Parath 35, 60b, 4x5; Ashutosh 19; Surjeet Bedi 6 for 32; Ankush Raghav 2 for 20). Dronacharya Academy: 157 all out in 36 overs (Vikas Kumar 43, 55b, 4x5; Vikas Angria 29, 25b, 4x5; Saurabh Singal 18; Yudhvir Singh, 4 for 31, Ashutosh 6 for 31).

Pranay bowls Poorvi Delhi to victory

A fierce bowling spell of 5 for 16 by Pranay Kumar steered Poorvi Delhi Club to an 80 runs victory against Tyagi Public School in the first Shiv Narain Khinchi Memorial Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the Tyagi Public School ground in the Capital.

Batting first, Poorvi Delhi Club were given a big boost when Manuj Narang and Nitin Sachdeva indulged in a batting blitzkrieg. Poorvi Delhi made 288 for 9 in 35 overs and then restricted Tyagi Public School to 208 for 8 in 35 overs. Pranay Kumar did all the damage with his five-wicket haul. Pranay was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Scores: Poorvi Delhi Club: 288 for 9 in 35 overs (Manuj Narang 74, 70b, 8x4; Nitin Sachdeva 72, 50b, 10x4; Madan Arora 4 for 35; Nikhil Aggarwal 3 for 19).

Tyagi Public School: 208 for 8 in 35 overs (Madan Arora 51, Umang Dahiya 35, Pranay Kumar 5 for 16).

Sports fiesta on ESPN

ESPN Star Sports will telecast a few high-profile sports events on Saturday, which will include the India vs Sri Lanka sixth One-Day International match of the Tri-Series, also featuring England, at Edgbaston. The match will be telecast live from 3.15 pm.

The Wimbledon Tennis Championship will be beamed live from 9.30 am, which will include the women’s singles final and the mixed doubles final. The Formula One Qualifying 2002, British Grand Prix, will come alive from 5.30 pm.

Soumik hits century for DAV

Soumik Chatterjee blasted a strokeful 118 and Tarun Sharma cracked an unbeaten 76 to help DAV School, Shalimar Bagh beat Aryavrat Sports Club by 89 runs in the Maharaja Agarsen Under-19 Cricket Tournament at the Ashok Vihar ground in the Capital.

DAV won the toss and opted to bat. Soumik and Tarun launched a blistering assault on the Aryavrat bowling as DAV posted a handsome total of 250 for one in 35 overs. In reply, Aryavrat were dismissed for 161 for 8 in 35 overs with left-arm leg-spinner Pawan Chauhan claiming three wickets for 22 runs.

Scores: DAV: 250 for one in 35 overs (Soumik Chatterjee 118, 12x4, 4x6; Tarun Sharma 76 n o, 8x4; Love Sehrawat 35 n o).

Aryavrat Sports Club: 161 for 8 in 35 overs (Ishan Bakshi 40, Vikram Anand 32, Pawan Chauhan 3 for 22).

United Delhi thrash Dronacharya

United Delhi Academy beat Dronacharya Cricket Foundation by 12 runs in a league match of the first Gyan Bharti South Delhi Under-13 Cricket Tournament at the Yamunavihar Sports Complex ground.

A fine knock of 41 by Manav Sharma was the high point of United Academy’s batting. In reply, the Dronacharya Foundation boys failed to tackle the bowling of United Delhi and folded up for 109. Only Lakshay Mohan and Rahul Arora could do some justice to their batting talent by scoring 17 runs each.

Scores: United Delhi Academy: 121 for 8 in 35 overs (Manav Sharma 41, Samarth Saxena 2 for 12, Lakshay Mohan 2 for 15, Ravneet Bedi 2 for 15).

Dronacharya Cricket Foundation: 109 all out in 34.5 overs (Lakshay Mohan 17, Rahul Arora 17, Varun Anand 2 for 13).

Aryavrat Club initiates talent hunt

Aryavrat Sports Club, Rohini will undertake a talent hunt on July 7 at Central School, Sector 3, Rohini to shortlist promising cricket players. Children in the age group of seven to 17 years are eligible to participate in the talent scout contest. Well-known coaches will be involved in the training of the selected players. Delhi cops to get 15 days’ CL

There is good news for the Delhi Police personnel. The Union Cabinet today restored 15 days’ casual leave to the officers and staff, bringing their casual leave entitlement on a par with that of staff of central police organisations.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Sushma Swaraj made the announcement after a meeting of the Union Cabinet.

This issue had been lingering for several years now. Only recently, Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Vijay Goel had appealed to Deputy Prime Minister and Union Home Minister LK Advani that considering the amount of work the personnel had to undergo their full quota of casual leave be restored.

Safai karamcharis want to be designated as technical workers

New Delhi, July 5
To meet the long-standing demands of safai karamcharis in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), a delegation of the Delhi Pradesh Valmiki Mazdoor Sangh today met the MCD Commissioner, Mr Rakesh Mehta, at his Town Hall office and handed over a memorandum of their demands. The general secretary of the sangh, Mr Raj Kumar, said that the Commissioner had promised that early action would be taken on these issues.

The memorandum demanded, besides others, that the karamcharis must be re-designated as technical worker and paid Rs 50 per month as oil and soap allowance along with their salary. OC
