Ekta shines in swimming meet

Ludhiana, June 2
Ekta Markan, a student of Government Senior Secondary School, PAU, was in the limelight as she won two events on the second day of the District Sub-junior and Junior Swimming Championship for boys and girls at the Municipal Corporation pool here today.

In the 50 m breast stroke in the girls I category, Ekta faced no challenge from Pankhuri of KVM School. Later, Ekta beat Pankhuri in 200 m breast stroke to lift her second individual gold.

Results: 200m butterfly stroke (boys 1): 1. Gurinderpal Singh (A S Club Khanna), 2. Jashandeep Singh (PAU Club).

200m butterfly stroke (boys II): 1. Karanvir (Baba Ishar Singh), 2. Mridul Sunil (S H Senior Secondary School).

Hockey meet from June 5

The Punjab State Junior Inter-District Hockey Championship will be organised in the stadium of Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, from June 5 to June 11.

Giving this information to Ludhiana Tribune, the SSP, Khanna Mr Devinder Singh Garcha, who is also the organising secretary of the event, and the vice-president of the championship, Prof R.S. Pali, said the championship would be inaugurated by Mr Rajdeep Singh Gill, ADGP (PAP), Punjab, on June 5 at 5 p.m. Mr M.S. Bhullar, DGP, Punjab, would be the chief guest at the concluding function, while Mr Tej Parkash, Transport Minister, Punjab, would be the guest of honour.

Among those who would be honoured on the final day are: Pargat Singh, former captain of the Indian hockey team; Mr Kartar Singh, Director (Sports); Ramandeep Singh, former captain of the Indian hockey team; Surinder Singh Sodhi, (Olympian); Hardeep Singh Neeta (Olympian); Mr Jagjit Singh Gill (an international player); Didar Singh, (Olympian); Iqbaljit Singh, (Olympian); Sukhvir Singh Grewal, (Olympian); Balwant Singh Budhewal, (international hockey player); Mr Barinder Singh, (Olympian); and Malkit Singh Angrez, (international kabbadi player).
