J.R. Jayewardhane
Ranga

ONE of the most eloquent leaders of Sri Lanka, an impressive orator and a great friend of India, Junius Richard Jayewardhane paid a visit to Delhi in 1988.

He was then the President of Sri Lanka. During his stay in Delhi, he signed a number of bilateral agreements with India to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

Considered to be a politician of high repute, Jayewardhane met many Indian leaders belonging to various parties.

During his visit, he had a number of engagements, including a press conference, where he answered a large number of questions put by journalists with ease and without any malice or prejudice.

It was during this short session that I was able to make his sketch. When I showed it to him, he acknowledged it with a smile and agreed to affix his signature on a similar one.
