MDU VC told to re-examine abolition of yoga teacher’s post
Jatinder Sharma

Rohtak, June 1
The Executive Council of the Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) has advised the vice-chancellor to re-examine the proposals for the abolition of the post of yoga teacher.

The executive council, which met here on Saturday, also advised the vice-chancellor to constitute a committee to frame the house allotment rules. However, the meeting deferred decision on those agenda items which could have raised controversy.

These items would be considered in the next meeting of the executive council scheduled to be held on June 6.

Mr Yudhvir Singh Malik, Commissioner and Secretary, Finance, and Mr Dhanpat Singh, Director, Higher Education, participated in the meeting as government nominees.

The meeting today started on a stormy note. One of the members of the EC protested that his dissent had not been recorded in the minutes.

He was supported by other members and the vice-chancellor was left with no option but to record the dissenting note of the member.

The EC members opposed the abolition of the post of the yoga teacher on the ground that it was a sanctioned post and has a provision in the budget.

But the government nominees insisted on the abolition of the post, as grave irregularities were committed in the appointment of the incumbent.

The members then advised the vice-chancellor to re-examine the proposal.

The members opined that those employees who had availed of house building loan from the university and had constructed houses at Rohtak or within a radius of eight kms, should not be allotted university house.

The council told the vice-chancellor to constitute a committee to frame house allotment rule and submit the report in the next meeting.

The council also deferred a decision on the promotion policy framed for non- technical and technical employees of the university.

The meeting advised the vice-chancellor to first define the term’ technical’ and placed the item for the next meeting.

The meeting deferred a decision regarding the merger of the department of Rural Development with department of Economics.

The Academic Council of the university had, in its meeting held on March 20, recommended the closure of the department of Rural Development but the faculty of Social Sciences, vide resolution no. 14, dated March 30, proposed the merger of the department with its parent Economics department. The matter is likely to come up for discussion on June 6.

Lawyers’ tussle over voting rights refuses to die down
Our Correspondent

Jhajjar, June 1
The ongoing tussle between the two groups of lawyers over the granting of voting rights to certain members of the District Bar Association, refuse to die down.

Advocate O P Deswal filed an appeal in the court of the Additional District and Session Judge, Mr B.S.Rawat, against the judgement of Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division) at Bahadurgarh, which upheld the voting rights of all the members of the association.

The executive president of the Bar said that the ADJ stayed the operation which set aside their the association’s resolution to debar certain members from voting in the DBA elections, through ruling of the lower court and fixed July 18 as the next date of hearing on the issue.

Mr Basesher Singh, ACJ, has sustained the voting right of 154 members of the DBA, who were debarred from participating in the elections of the association by a resolution in its meeting, on the basis that they have been practicing at other places and were the members of the Bar associations at those places too.

Two groups of the lawyers were on the collusion course on the issue after the meeting on May 14, when the president of association was deposed for supporting the voting right to such members.

Later, he was expelled from the association in its meeting held on May 28 for pursuing his personal agenda and ignoring the views of the members of the DBA.

However, with the decision of the ACJ in his favour, he set up a parallel Bar association and claimed the support of 60 advocates, although the rival group stated that not more than 20 lawyers were present in the meeting.

Both the groups have also finalised the election date of their respective bodies. Mr Chahar fixed June 14 as

the date of elections. The other group led by the secretary, Mr Krishan Kadian, and supported by Mr O P Deswal, will hold elections on June 15.
