Licences for canteens: Units oppose MCF move Faridabad, May 24 The factory owners have started opposing the move stating that it is illegal. The MCF has already sent notices to the units informing the decision. The industrialists have claimed that running a canteen or kitchen inside factory premises was not a commercial activity and therefore there was no need of acquiring any licence or depositing a fee for it, as notified by the MCF. The corporation sources revealed that the move had been made to improve the sources of income of the MCF whose financial position had become poor since the abolition of the Octroi. It may be recalled that the labour laws make it mandatory for a factory or industrial unit to start a canteen for its staff if it had over 50 employees on its roll. The general secretary of the Faridabad Small Industries Association (FSIA), Mr Rajiv Chawla, has condemned the move and has said that running a canteen was not a commercial activity. He said that such a step could not be justified as it would lead to further harassment of industrial units. The FSIA and other bodies representing the industries here have already described some of the taxes imposed by the MCF as improper and unjustified. |
