The monthly meetings of the District (Gurgaon) Public Relations and Grievances Committee, presided over by the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, are proving to be nightmares for public servants. The beneficiary is, of course, the common man. In the meeting today, Mr Chautala took cognisance of complaints from the public and ordered the registration of criminal cases and departmental inquiries against the sarpanches of Khedki Kalan and Umri villages. Both the villages fall in Ferozepur Jhirka Tehsil in Mewat.

With regard to the sarpanch of Kedki Kalan, one Santoshi Ram alleged that he had tampered with the documents relating to the disposal of money under the Indira Awaas Yojna. Mr Chautala directed the authorities to register a case under Section 420 (IPC) against the accused.

With regard to the sarpanch of Umri, two residents of the village alleged that he tampered with the documents in connection with the leasing of the village pond on “patta”. Mr Chautala handed over the investigation in the case to the Additional Deputy Commissioner. The investigations are to be completed before the next meeting of the Grievances Committee.
