Sohana hospital to have modern gynae wing

SAS Nagar, May 4
A modern gynaecology and obstetrics wing will become functional at the Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib (Charitable) Eye Hospital, Sohana, near here from May 5. The Jathedar of Takht Harmandar Sri Patna Sahib, Giani Iqbal Singh, will inaugurate the new facility at the hospital.

A spokesman of the hospital said the gynaecology wing would have a team of doctors comprising Dr M.K. Brar, Dr S. Sud and Dr Rachna Deewan. Dr Parveena Sodhi will be heading the paediatrics wing. Bhai Jasbir Singh Khannewale, Chairman of the hospital, said the objective of setting the institute was to ensure quality treatment for all sections of society.

IT Dept beat CA XI

Chandigarh, May 4
The team from the Income Tax Department prevailed upon Chartered Accountants XI by 78 runs in a cricket match played between both departments played here today at the Cricket Stadium, Sector 16. Rajesh Kumar was the skipper of the winner team. Later Mr Ashwani Luthra, Commissioner, Income Tax, charge I, who was the chief guest, gave away the prizes.

IT Department scored 190 runs for the loss of five wickets, while CA XI could muster only 112 runs for nine wickets in the stipulated 25 overs. Rajesh Kumar was adjudged the man of the match, while Bhupinder of CA XI was declared the best batsman and Hardeep Dhillon of IT, the best bowler.

Football body to meet

The annual general body meeting of the Chandigarh Football Association will be held tomorrow in DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8 at 12 noon. According to Mr Rakesh Bakshi, secretary of the association, the meeting will discuss among other things, the passing of annual accounts of the year and the calender of events to be held in the coming year.

Satluj coaching centre win

Satluj Coaching Centre, Panchkula, outplayed Chandigarh Sports Club by 47 runs in the UT League Cricket Tournament played here today. In a group B match, Satluj CC made 212 runs for a loss of four wickets. Jai Kapila remained unbeaten with 79 runs followed by Tejwinder Gill who hammered 51 runs in 35 deliveries. CSC club were bundled out for 165 runs. Manav and Vaneet scored 74 and 25 runs respectively. Rudramani, Jai Kapila and Surinder Chauhan claimed two wickets each.

Snooker tourney

Vineet Khosla beat Gurminder Singh (2-0) (45-38,65-43)on the second day of the 3rd Saurabh Khattar Memorial Snooker Championship at Chandigarh Club here today.

In other matches, G. Singh defeated Atul Arora (2-0) (55-24,60-20); Sandeep Kochhar beat Jaspal Singh (2-0) (49-45,94-40); Ranjan Verma won over Amit Thukral (2-0) (45-29,41-31).

In the Shekhar Puri Memorial Billiard Championship Saurabh Nayyar beat Rajan Gulati (150-119). Sandeep Chadha beat Saurabh Nayyar (202-129). Pankaj Gulati defeated Gopal Gupta (150-147). Ajay Gupta lost to Jaspal Singh (138-152).
