Exam application date of MDU extended

The last date for the submission of application forms for the admission to B.Ed (regular) course of Maharshi Dayanand University, was extended to 10th May, with a late fee of Rs five hundred. Earlier, the deadline for submission of application forms was 1st May. The entrance test would be conducted on 9th June.

Man killed

An occupant of a Tata 407 vehicle was killed when the vehicle overturned here on Tuesday evening. The deceased was identified as Jagdish, a resident of Hasanpur village.

Mr Brij Mohan, the brother of the deceased alleged in the FIR that the incident occurred due to the carelessness on part of the driver of the vehicle.

The police have registered a case under Section 279 and 304-A of the IPC and started a manhunt to trace the driver of the vehicle.

Officials booked

Faridabad
Assistant Divisional Fire Officer and the Fire Officer of the Municipal Corporation, Faridabad (MCF) were booked for threatening. one Bipin Somstamb, a resident of Sector-28. The case was registered after a complaint lodged by Bipin Somstamb.

He had charged that he was threatened by the officials of the Fire Department of the MCF after he had complained that they had provided NOC to a non-existent building on a plot in Sector-31. The police have registered a case under Section 506 and 504 of the IPC against Mr S. K. Sharma and P. C. Sharma.

Liquor seized

An illicit liquor vend was found to be operating in Pakhal village of the district. A large quantity of liquor, that was illegally sold for past four-years, was seized. A raid was conducted after information was received that the accused, Ombir Singh, a shopkeeper at the village, was selling and supplying liquor to the local residents. The seizure include about 71 bottles (English) Indian Made foreign liquor, 46 bottles of local brands and 126 bottles of bear.

New train halt

Sonepat
The Northern Railway has decided to make Ganaur railway station a halt point for the Unchhar Express, running between Allahabad and Ambala Cantt. According to a report, this followed the persistent demand made by the commuters to the railway authorities.

Wheat Gutted

A large number wheat bags were destroyed when fire broke out in the new grain market here on Tuesday night. The cause of the fire was not immediately ascertained. According to another report, standing wheat crop worth several thousands of rupees was also burnt in a fire that broke out in the fields at Bagru village.

Arms recovered

A youth, Arun Arora, suspected to be an arms smuggler, was arrested by the police, following the alleged recovery of nine unlicensed pistols from him. According to a report, Arun Arora used to smuggle arms and sell them at exorbitant price. A case under the Indian Arms Act was registered against him and further investigations were in progress.

Case registered

The Rai police had registered a criminal case against four persons, including the former SHO and two police constables in connection with the mysterious death of one Rajpal of Baroli village. The police had started an investigation after a case was filed by Mrs Neeta Devi, the wife of the deceased. According to a report, the case was registered following the directive of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, after hearing the petition filed by the wife of the victim.

Agitation threat

Residents of Kharkhauda town threatened to launch an agitation if the authorities of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) failed to remove the electronics meters from their premises. According to a report, the residents, including many women, held a demonstration in front of the office of the UHBVN at Kharkhauda.

Prisoner injured

Munna, a prisoner, sustained injuries when he was hit by an iron rod while working in the district jail here. According to a report, he was immediately hospitalised and was stated to be out of danger. The prisoner belonged to U.P. and was involved in a theft case.

Students pay artistic tributes to environment

WIGAN and Leigh Design College organised a design exhibition showcasing designs and artworks of more than 2,000 students. The theme for the exhibition was ‘Environment’ and the artwork of the students focussed on the topics such as cruelty on animals, peace on earth, be vegetarian and India – 50 years from now.

The Union Minister of Animal Welfare and Statistics and Programme Implementation, Ms Maneka Gandhi, inaugurated the three-day exhibition. Lady Catherine Young, wife of the British High Commissioner subsequently gave awards and trophies to the students. A special Wigan Design Trophy was also instituted to recognise the efforts of the students working for the cause of environment. Puneet Rakheja, a final year student from Wigan Design College, won the trophy this year.

The artworks displayed in the Wigan Design Exhibition were shortlisted from 5,000 artworks, which were collected after conducting an inter-school competition in association with Camlin in more than 50 schools from Delhi. More than 7,500 students participated in it.

“The idea behind organising this exhibition was to identify and nurture the young talent from various schools and offer them a platform to display their works to a vast audience,” the Head of Department of Wigan and Leigh College, Ms Deepti Baveja, said.

“A special section has been devoted to the works of Wigan Design students to showcase their exceptional talent in the field of design,” Ms Baveja said.

Wigan and Leigh College is one of the largest government-funded education institutions in the UK. In India, Wigan and Leigh has centres in Delhi, Bangalore, Indore and Mumbai offering industry-led academic courses in management, advertising and marketing communications, graphic design, fashion technology, apparel merchandising and marketing at postgraduate and under-graduate levels.

Admission to PICT

The Pune Institute of Computer Technology – Society of Information Technology and Management (PICT-SITM) has invited admission to its two-year full-time Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM) and Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology Management (PGDITM) for aspiring IT and management professionals in Delhi.

PICT –SITM is the latest addition to the reputed Society for Computer Technology and Research for offering advanced PF disciplines to the aspiring IT and management professionals.

Admission to the programmes is based on merit/fulfilment of eligibility criterion, a statement issued by the institute said.

STG - bioinformatics

Software Technology Group (STG) has announced the launch of its Advanced Diploma in Bioinformatics – a programme catering to the needs of genomics, pharma, agriculture and bio-technology. Initially, the programme will be available at STG centres in New Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore. In the second phase, the company plans to take it to other cities including Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.

Mr Yogesh Vaidya, Chairman and CEO, STG, said that “biotechnology industry in India is valued at $2.5 billion and is undergoing major transformation. The rapid rise of commercial genomic industry and the introduction of newer genomic techniques in biology and medicine has created a market for bioinformatics software, hardware and services”.

The course comprises six months spread over one year. The modules are patterned in the form of project-based training for all the modules with exhaustive content material and practicals, he said.

“The course is specially structured to empower a student with strong fundamentals in applied biology, knowledge of bioinformatics softwares and tools with IT skills like RDBMS, programming, data mining, retrieving, analysis of sequence and structure.

The course will provide career avenues in therapeutic and environmental industries, healthcare diagnostics, pharma, agrotech, biotech industries and even software service companies,” Mr Vaidya said.

Jamboree institute
