AMERICAN Express, a global travel, financial and network services provider with 80-year presence in India, announced it will expand its global operations infrastructure in India, by setting up a 1,37,000 sq. ft. service centre at Gurgaon, Haryana. The American Express Global Service Centre, Gurgaon, will offer activities such as voice and data based customer service, fraud and risk modelling and financial processing, to American Express customers worldwide.

Mr Sanjay Rishi, vice-president and general manager, Global Service Centres, Asia, said: "The establishment of this facility is a part of the strategy for providing world class servicing through global, distributed customer-servicing network."

In recent months, American Express has entered into several strategic relationships with leading providers at locations in Gurgaon, New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. The new proprietary service centre is expected to complement this infrastructure and will employ several hundred full-time positions initially, with a room for growth in the future.

The distributed service network initiatives of American Express in India will complement the company's Global Service Centre network and provide additional capacity to serve its growing business. The service network supports a variety of company's card, financial services and travel-related businesses around the world.

The proprietary centre will be housed at a modern facility and is at an advanced stage of completion. Spread over 5 floors, this fully equipped facility will be set up as an international quality service centre with a state of the art telecommunications infrastructure.
