Mass copying in Haryana schools
Our Correspondent

Rohtak, Sonepat & Faridabad, March 23
Although the various district administration in Haryana had made ‘foolproof’ arrangements and had claimed to have left no stone unturned in order to conduct free and fair examination of the CBSE, Board of School Education Haryana and the Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), a large number of cases have come to light where the use of unfair means were rampant.

In a rare initiative, the Rohtak district police deputed five gazetted officers, six Inspectors, 65 non- gazetted officers, 170 Head Constables and 250 Constables for the smooth conduct of the examinations. Besides, 26 vehicles have been deployed for the purpose.

The police registered 20 cases and arrested 62 persons in connection with the use of unfair means in the examinations.

Divulging the details, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Rohtak said 60 persons were arrested under Section 188 of the IPC and 2 under Section 420 of the IPC.

He said a case of impersonation was registered at the Government High School, Chiri, on Friday.

Similarly, the SSP said, Ashok, a resident of Aasan village, had fled with an answer sheet from the Government High School, Kansala, and was later arrested by the police. Besides, he said 24 youths were arrested under Section 188 of the IPC from different examination centers in the town.

The police chief accepted that there were outside interference at various examination centers, particularly at Kalanaur town and Nindana, Kharawar, Chulana and Kharainti villages.

Similarly, large-scale interference by outsiders and mass copying by the examinees in the current matric and middle school examinations being conducted by the Board of School Education Haryana, were reported from many of the 123 centres set up in Sonepat district.

According to a report, the flying squads set up to check the menace of copying and outside interference in and around the examination centres have proved ineffective.

The prohibitory orders promulgated by the Deputy Commissioner have also proved to be a failure as anti-social elements were seen outside the examination centres in the urban and rural areas of the district.

The Deputy Commissioner visited one examination centre at Rathdhanna village and found several irregularities and malpractices indulged in by the students on Friday.

He ordered the immediate removal of the centre superintendent and two supervisors from the centre and the launching of criminal proceedings against them besides five people of the village.

According to another report, the officials detected 31 cases of unfair means in the English paper examination at a number of examination centres set up at Bajana, Khubru and Pugthala villages in the district.

Mr Jeet Singh Mehra, SDM Ganaur, also visited one examination centre at Ganaur town and caught a youth Balraj impersonating a student Mahipal.

He was later handed over to the police on impersonation charges.

The SDM also detected three more cases of copying and directed the centre superintendent to take necessary legal action against them.

The name of the students involved are Anil Kumar, Sunil and Satya Prakash.

Meanwhile, in a continuing trend of using unfair means in the examination, about 49 students appearing in Matric exams of the Haryana Board were booked for using unfair means in Faridabad district on Friday.

The authorities have also written for the change of three centres, which failed to check copying.

As many as 12 examination centres have been declared as disturbed.
