Noisy scenes in J&K Assembly Jammu, March 16 Members belonging to the BJP and the Congress raised the issue even before question hour began. Mr Ashok Sharma of the Congress had moved a motion for adjournment, which the Speaker disallowed. When the Speaker, Mr Abdul Ahad Vakil, refused permission to the members to raise the issue as it had been discussed, the members raised slogans. While BJP members staged a walk-out in protest against the Speaker’s ruling, two Congress members — Mr Ashok Sharma and Mr Lal Singh — moved to the well of the House and shouted slogans. Despite a warning by the Speaker they kept on shouting slogans against the government. The Speaker directed the security staff to push the slogan-shouting members out of the House. As the two Congress members were being forced out of the House, Mr Lal Singh lay down flat in the well of the House and he was dragged out of the Assembly. The agitated members staged a dharna on the steps at the entrance to the Assembly Secretariat. Two Congress members — Mr Dorjee and Mr Tara Chand — joined the walkout. Later, the CPI(M) member, Mr M.V. Tarigami, requested the Speaker to allow the members to re-enter. The Speaker said he would do so provided Mr Tarigami gave a guarantee of their responsible behaviour. However, the Congress members did not enter the House. The BJP members were back in the House after question hour. Mr Vakil said he had rejected the motion for adjournment of the House on the ground that it had not been sent in a proper manner. He charged the Opposition members. Of playing to the gallery because Assembly elections were round the corner. Before the House met for the second sitting, the Congress members staged a dharna again on the entrance of the Assembly complex and later took out a procession, demanding reinduction of the sacked employees. |
