Jhajjar, March 13
The Municipal Council of Bahadurgarh (MCB) has proposed to sell its prime land worth Rs 4 crore during the next financial year with a view to increasing its revenue to Rs 7.95 crore in the annual budget. The council had a surplus budget with the opening balance of Rs 51,73,438 against the total budgeted revenue of Rs 3.32 crore during the financial year of 2001-2002.

The MCB took many important decisions at its meeting held here to discuss the annual proposals for the next financial year. However, many councillors remained conspicuously tight-lipped when asked to react on the proposals. A resolution about the purchase of a new jeep and creation a new post of driver was also passed in the meeting. According to inside sources, the only fund-rich council in the state has decided to put on sale six acres of land near Shastri Nagar Colony at a probable rate of around Rs 1,000 per square yard and about 2.5 acre land near HUDA Sector 9-A, apart from a dozen newly constructed shops in the town.

The council will have estimated an income of Rs 7.95 crore this time against Rs 3.32 crore during the current financial year. Apart from an additional income from the land sale to the tune of Rs 4 crore, the council expects to earn Rs 85 lakh as house tax, Rs 80 lakh as stamp duty, Rs 60 lakh as rent, Rs 50 lakh as development charges, Rs 5 lakh as interest, Rs 25 lakh from miscellaneous sources and Rs 80 lakh from other sources, including grant in-aid by the state and central governments. The expenditure quota for the next financial year has been placed at Rs 7.89 crore which includes Rs 1.60 crore as establishment expenses, Rs 4.62 crore as development expenses, Rs 71 lakh as contingency, Rs 25 lakh as payment of interest and Rs 61 lakh as miscellaneous expenses.
