1. Since the last few days, the clock of my PC is not running properly. It runs only when the PC is turned on and not when it's turned off. So my PC is lagging behind in time. 2. Please tell me how I can remove the program appearing in taskbar at start up. I will be thankful. Vickey, Patiala A. It appears that the CMOS battery placed on the motherboard is weak. Kindly get it checked and if needed get it replaced, I hope this would solve your problem. Regarding your second problem, it is worth mentioning that each and every program placed in the system tray gives an option of removing it from the tray. Simply right click on its icon in the system tray and then from the drop-down menu search for the option of removing it. It is possible that this option may not be listed in the main menu, and could be present in the sub menus. Thus you may have to locate it from the drop-down menu either under main menu or sub menu. In some other cases, this option is listed in the properties of the program.
Q. I have a P III 667 with 20 GB hard disk and 128 RAM on Azza 810 board with Windows Me as OS. My hard disk is partitioned as C=5 GB, D=10 GB, E=5 GB and the disk C is used up to 3.09 and free as 1.55. I want to merge disk C and disk D. How can I do that without formatting. Lately my PC has started taking a lot of time to shut down. How can I rectify that? I want to remove the window that asks for password to open Windows Me. I tried the method suggested by you three weeks ago but still that window comes while booting. Somehow I deleted the command for standby in shut down menu. It has got only shut down and restarts left in it. How can I restore that? Amarpreet Sidhu, Patiala A. Regarding the first problem, you can use software like Partition Magic, for managing the partitions. This software can handle the problem effectively. However, you must take care to read the instruction manual in the help file first because before you start using this software, you should have all necessary information for using this software. Since this function is critical, therefore you must take utmost care, even while using this software. Regarding your second problem, you must remove all useless programs from your system, which start with loading of the windows and thus make the shut down process slow. Secondly, also, remove the shareware versions, which have expired. This also consumes the system resources and makes the system slow. Thirdly, if possible trim down the registry using the registry cleaner software. Lastly, run scan disk in thorough mode as it will repair any file, which has become corrupt or has any problem, causing the system to slow down. Regarding your third problem, you will have to reinstall the Windows. However, as far as removing the Login screen of the Windows is concerned, the procedure is same as mentioned before and works quite effectively. For your reference, this is mentioned again below in length.

Q. I have P III, 800 MHz, 128 MB RAM and 20 GB HDD, 815e mercury motherboard with two operating systems, Win '98 SE on C: and Win XP on F:. Earlier I had Win '98 SE on C: and Win XP on E:. Then I formatted the whole extended DOS partition, primary remaining as it is. I made one more drive and installed Win XP on F:. Now, when I start my computer, it displays three options: Win XP, Win XP and Win '98. The second option of Win XP is due to the earlier installed XP, which is not there and does not work, whereas other options 1 and 3 work properly. Tell me how can I remove this useless second option of Win XP and how to change the default option which is Win XP now. I want to make it Win '98. Also, I installed office XP in Win XP and want to use it while working in '98 without installing it in '98. My other problem is that Win 98 does not show CD drive but is connected properly as Win XP shows it. Jitendra Arora, Rohtak A. Regarding your first problem, you can remove bootloader by simply booting the operating system that is Windows '98 with the bootable CD ROM or floppy and then at the A: type SYS C: This will remove your bootloader and will make Windows '98 your default operating system. Regarding the second problem, you cannot use a program installed in another operating system. Thus in your case, it is not possible to use office XP in Windows '98, which is actually installed in Windows XP. Regarding your third problem related to the CD-ROM not showing in Windows '98, you should reinstall the CD-ROM driver again in Windows '98 in order to use CD-ROM effectively.
Q. I have Pentium II based computer (on Win '98). Its BIOS is of Award Modular. The problem I am facing is that on every boot up after memory checks message appears that says: "Check sum error defaults loaded. Press F1 to continue." Please let me know why this is happening and what is the solution. Rajeev, Chandigarh. A. The simple solution to the
problem is that you load the fail-safe defaults in the BIOS feature
setup and then reboot your system. On rebooting you will find that your
problem has disappeared. However, if this problem occurs, then this will
mean that the CMOS battery on your motherboard is weak and needs to be
replaced. On replacing the battery your problem will be solved. |
