General Pervez Musharraf
by Ranga

"WITH compliments" wrote General Pervez Musharraf on the sketch when I showed it to him after he laid a wreath on the samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. He affixed his signature below it and asked me whether I could hold an exhibition of my collections in Pakistan. I only replied: "Yes, but it is in your hands, sir!"

General Musharraf, who seized power from Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan to become the President, was in Delhi on July 14, 2001, on his way to Agra to attend the summit meeting between India and Pakistan. The security was extremely tight all through and it was not easy to penetrate it. However, my meeting with General Musharraf though went off easily. It was not easy to cross over the barrier of security check-ups at all the places where General Musharraf went. I took more time to search for him even though making the sketch took only a few minutes.
