Nationals, Shahdara gain full points in DSA League New Delhi, January 6 This was Nationals’ third straight victory, and they have now collected nine points while Garhwal Heroes have gathered only five points from as many matches. Substitute Abass Babayanju scored the all-important goal in the 66th minute. Shahdara have earned seven points from three matches while Goans have managed to earn only one point from three matches. Osmond John Ekka and Bhupender Thakur were the scorers for Shahdara. The star-studded Nationals were lucky to scrape past Garhwal Heroes as they were totally unimpressive in their display. Mid-fielders Indarjit Singh (Sr) and foreign recruit, Nigerian Augustine Okor Ekuma, and Manjit Singh failed to distribute the ball properly. As a result, forwards Arjinder Singh, Pushpinder and Amar Nandy were starved of goal-worthy passes. On the other hand, medios Pankaj Negi and captain Ramesh Kumar did a tireless job in the
mid field to set up nice passes for Garhwal Heroes forwards Ravinder and T K Srinivasan, who, however, failed to cash in on them. Nationals walked on thin edge till substitute Abass Babay anju came to their rescue, with a weak shot which surprisingly found its way into the goal, catching Garhwal custodian Kiran Barua on the wrong foot.
Nationals’ Jayanta Shill and Garhwal Heroes’ Gambhir Rawat and Ravinder were booked with the yellow card by referee S Saha for wrongful
behaviour. In the second match, after a barren first half, Shahdara struck through Osmond John Ekka and former international Bhupender Thakur in the 36th and 43rd minutes respectively. The two good chances Goans got for scoring were muffed by P S Thuingaleng and Rajesh Negi. Meanwhile, the Kirya ceremony of former Delhi custodian and noted radio and television commentator Satya Prakash Ghildiyal, who died a few days ago, will be held at his residence in Madangir, South Delhi, on Monday at 12 noon. |
