Ban on burning of residual straw
Our Correspondent

Fatehgarh Sahib, September 17
To check the apprehension of a large-scale pollution in the environment and spread of fire in fields, the district administration has enforced a complete ban on the burning of residual paddy straw after harvesting by the farmers in the district. The ban order would remain in force till November 15.

Mr Vikas Partap, District Magistrate, in an order stated that the ban on the burning of straw had to be issued as a large number of farmers used to burn straw after harvesting and the widespread smoke caused a serious problem to the environment. He said due to smoke, people were affected by diseases like asthama.

The DC cautioned the farmers that with the burning of straw in their fields, most of the nutrients were destroyed in the upper layers of the soil, which weakened the fertility level of the land. He called upon farmers to get rid of the paddy straw from the fields through other conventional methods.Back
