Drive against tipsy drivers
Tribune News Service

Ludhiana, August 7
The tipsy as well as under-age drivers will have to be beware. The traffic police equipped with modern machinery has launched a drive to check spirited drivers. It has also started a drive against under-age drivers and challaned a number of school students today.

Two alco-meters, manufactured in Australia, have been bought by the city traffic police to check drunkard drivers who were said to be causing a lot of accidents. The machine tests the breath samples and the alcohol level is printed on the report.

Mr Arun Pal Singh, SP (Traffic), informed that as many as 14 tipsy drivers were challaned in the special drive last night. The drive would continue, he said. The police also conducted a surprise check at several schools. Though the exact number of challaned vehicles was not known, the police sources said the number was substantial.
