Looking back

The term Dead Sea Fruits means results which are bitterly disappointing, even though they had held out high hopes. The allusion of this idiom is to the fruit, sometimes called apples of Sodom, known to be produced in the bitterly salty water of the Jordan river, flowing into the Dead Sea. This phrase was first recorded in the 19th century in a novel by Miss Brandon.
