Salaries of teachers not paid

Samrala, July 15
The convener of the Adhyapak Chetna Manch, Mr Mehma Singh Kang, and General Secretary of the Punjab Lekhak Manch, Dr Gulzar Mohamad Goria, have regretted that the salaries of thousands of teachers had not been paid for the past many months as the government has not issued grants for the sanctioned plan posts.

They appealed to the Punjab Government to release immediately grant for these sanctioned plan posts.

Sheetal is ‘Monsoon Queen’

Dr Achla Gupta, Ms Pammi Sidhu and Ms Sheetal Nayyar were declared ‘Monsoon Queens’ in the ‘Monsoon Queen’ contest organised by the Geetanjli Ladies Club on the club premises, here last evening.

The contest was divided into three age groups. The group 1 represented women above 45 years of age; group II had participants between 35 and 45 years of age; and group III included contestants below 35 years of age.

There were three rounds in the contest. Contestants walked on the ramp in colourful crepe and satin sarees in different pastel and bright colours of pink, purple, yellow, green, red and orange. The second round was the questionnaire round in which all contestants answered very confidently. The third round was the final one and all the participants gathered on the stage.

Over 18 contestants participated in the contest. Dr Achla Gupta was declared ‘Monsoon Queen’ in the above 45 years age group. Ms Pooja Khanna and Ms Sunita Aggarwal were chosen first and second runners-up, respectively.

In the 35-45 years age group, Ms Pammi Sidhu became ‘Monsoon Queen’, while Ms Swaran Gupta and Ms Manju were declared first and second runners-up, respectively.

Ms Sheetal Nayyar was adjudged ‘Monsoon Queen’ in the below 35 years age group. Ms Shalini and Ms Jasleen were declared first and second runners-up, respectively.

Ms Sudesh Arora was declared ‘Ms Graceful’ and Ms Neena Mehta won a prize for wearing ‘monsoon saree’.

The judges included Ms Manmeet Sodia and Ms Rippy Chatwal. Ms Roshan Gupta, newly elected president of the club, presented a vote of thanks.

Shooting meet from July 20

Ludhiana, July 15
The 10th edition of the Ludhiana District Shooting Championship will be organised by the District Rifle Association from July 20 to 22 at newly constructed shooting ranges of Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women here, according to Mr G. S. Garcha, general secretary, District Rifle Association, Ludhiana.

Competitions in air rifle and pistol in the senior, junior and sub-junior categories for men as well as women will be conducted. Shooters desirous of participating in the meet have been advised to give their names along with the entry fee latest by 12 noon on July 20 to the general secretary at his residence, 29-L, Model Town, Ludhiana, or Mr N.S. Bhogal, senior vice-president of the association, at 580/3, Model Town, Ludhiana.
