DR Amartya Sen, Professor at Trinity College, Cambridge, was in Delhi soon after he received the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1998. He had a tight programme throughout his stay and it was difficult to catch him anywhere. There was always a crowd around him and to go near him was just impossible. However, I got a chance at one of his press conferences. After the conference, I immediately went to him with the sketch I had drawn for his signature. He was in a hurry to keep another engagement. It was there that I was able to get him to have a look at the sketch. It appeared that he was not in a mood to respond. Finally, he decided to affix his signature on the picture. I heaved a sigh of relief, having taken pains to chase him.
