Ranga

‘I am meeting you again,’ so said the late King Birendra of Nepal as I approached him for his autograph on his sketch drawn by me.

He was immensely pleased with the picture and went through with some of my sketches of dignitaries and had a hearty laugh as he saw the picture of Mrs Indira Gandhi carrying an iron in her hand.

This all happened "just before he left Rajghat, where he had gone to pay homage to the Father of the Nation.

The late Nepalese monarch had visited Delhi on a number of occasions and this visit was perhaps the latest one.

As he signed over the picture, he took care to see his name was written properly with the mention that he was the ruler of Nepal. The security was kind in allowing me to meet him and I must say this was one of the rare occasions where I had an easy going with the dignitary.
