Ginny tops in Class VIII exam in city

Ginny Karir has topped the Class VIII examination in the city, conducted by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) this year. She has stood second in the district. Scoring 95.58 per cent was not much difficult for Ginny, a student from Saraswati Modern School. I have always achieved all what I had targeted, said Ginny beaming with confidence, while talking to Ludhiana Tribune.

Wakf Board’s ex-Estate Officer acquitted

The Additional Sessions Judge, Mr G.R. Banyal, today acquitted former Estate Officer Nazeer Hussain of Wakf Board, Ludhiana, in a corruption case registered against him on January 24, 1995, for allegedly accepting Rs 5,000. An FIR was registered against Nazeer Hussain on the complaint of Kulwant Singh, a resident of Jandiali Khurd village in Sangrur district, under the Prevention of Corruption Act by the Vigilance Bureau, Punjab.

In the complaint made to the Vigilance Bureau, it was alleged by Kulwant Singh that he wanted to take a plot of 500 sq yards on lease from the Punjab Wakf Board. In November 1994, he met the then Estate Officer, Wakf Board, Ludhiana.

Even after completing formalities on November 24, 1994, plot was not allotted to him. He reportedly met the accused five to ten times and he demanded Rs 10,000 as illegal gratification and the amount was to be paid in two equal instalments.

According to prosecution, thereafter the DSP, Vigilance, Mr Makhan Singh, alongwith the police party came to Ludhiana. When the accused allegedly accepted the bribe and put that amount into his drawer, he was nabbed.

Courts closed for summer vacation

Ludhiana, June 16
The district courts have closed for a month-long summer vacation. The courts will remain closed from June 16 to July 15. Pending civil cases will be taken up for hearing after the vacation period, though pending criminal cases will be taken up for hearing from July 1. However, urgent civil and criminal matters will be entertained by the specially deputed judicial officers.

During the vacation, urgent civil matters would be entertained and disposed of by Mr Jagjit Singh Chauhan, Civil Judge, Senior Division, Ludhiana, and in his absence by Mr Balwinder Kumar, Civil Judge, Junior Division.

From July 1 to July 15, Mr A.K. Mehta, Additional Civil Judge, Senior Division, will remain on duty and in his absence Judicial Officer Mrs Sukhwinder Kaur, as per the orders of Ludhiana’s District and Sessions Judge Mr S.S. Arora . For entertaining urgent criminal matters, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Mr A K Mehta and JMIC-Balwinder Kumar will work as duty magistrates from June 16 to June 30 at Ludhiana. At sub-division Khanna from June 16 to June 30, Judicial Magistrate-Munish Arora, at Samrala Mrs Asha Mehta from June 16 to June 30.
