MORARJI DESAI was the Prime Minister in 1979. He was leading the Janata Party Government. It was during a Press conference that I had an opportunity to draw him. It was just a picture of him bending towards the table. As I approached him for his autograph on it, he got annoyed and refused. He told me, "I never bend," and asked me to make him look erect and bring the sketch to him at his residence. I felt that I should not displease him. I made another attempt to draw him straight and erect and went to his place to seek his signature on the sketch.

When he looked at the picture, he was much pleased to see his erect portrayal and beamed at me before I left his residence.
