There’s lots to Bas Itna Sa... DREAMSshattered... but illusions fulfilled. Am I sounding madly mixed up, huh? Sorry, can’t help it. That’s because Bas ItnaSaKhwaabHai is that sort of a story, that ‘frame’ of a film. And the catchline to Bas Itna Sa is the movie’s promo punch: "I want everything !" What fabulous reports, this film by debut director Goldie Behl (talented son of hit film-maker, the late Ramesh Behl) is whipping up a frenzy in the media! Quite understandable, actually, because the magnificent music of BISKH, by Aadesh Srivastava, is already on a chart-topping spree! Add to that the handpicked cast of Jackie Shroff, Sushmita Sen, Sonali Bendre, Rani Mukherjee and Abhishek Bachchan... you’ve got a deadly, dynamite package just waiting to rock the box office — a la RDX! Allow me to tickle your grey cells by placing on record the (indisputable) fact that Ramesh Behl had made some of the biggest grossers with the then populars like Amitabh Bachchan and Randhir Kapoor — Kasme Vaade, Jawani Diwani, Pukar, etc. And now, son Goldie has picked up his papa’s gauntlet to singe the silver screen......... with a creative vengeance. Young ‘n’
restless, Suraj Srivastava (Abhishek) is the epitome of today’s
aspiring, ambitious new generation X. The searing story traces his
journey in life...as he watches his dreams die by the wayside, making
him all the more determined to realise his (amplified) ambitions. His
desires change and increase with every achievement; nothing seems to
be enough, and he reaches a point when he decides: "All I want is
everything!" |
Amrita Singh, now happily Mrs Saif Ali Khan, was virtually at the pinnacle of popularity and stardom when she decided to get married and raise a family with the (struggling) star son of Sharmila Tagore and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. Millions of her fans still miss the Mrs! (You, too?) Well, Bollywood now has a new Amrita — Amrita Arora! Perhaps it’s just a coincidence that both Amritas are Punjabi kudis. Arora is every bit as vivacious as Amrita Singh has always been. (No wonder she made it with Amitabh Bachchan in Mard — a runaway hit.) And the new Amrita is already making waves in Bollywood, what with five fine films in her pretty li’l palm...opposite the likes of Salman Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt. Wow! Human dynamo Dev Dev Anand could be called a film-maker in the true (and literal) sense of the term—his prime passion is to go on making movies, irrespective of whether his last offering did well or bombed at the box office. And the (phenomenal) man is at it once more in his incredibly inimitable, irrepressible whirlwind way. Not in the least bothered that Censor didn’t quite gel with the cinegoers, Dev saab is excited (like a kid with a brand new turbo toy!) to bits as he happily, smilingly talks about the two new pictures he’s lining up for release later this year—Beauty Queen and Love in Time Square! Boy, what a humming, human dynamo......! Insiders insist that the entire cast (well, almost) for both the flicks has been finalised and that the shootings—in India and abroad—will be rapidfire. (Is that why singer-actor Lucky Ali is taking an extended holiday from Mumbai’s recording studios...considering that he’s reportedly the warbling, guitar-strumming leading man of Times Square...?) Sisterly act Strange ‘n’ surprising, isn’t it, the craze top heroines have developed to play sisterly roles of late? I’d say it’s a positive benchmark, a new-fangled trend for Hindi cinema. Not, too, long ago, playing the hero’s sis was a (simper-simper) slot reserved for the actresses of a lesser God. Rewind to Karisma Kapoor playing
Hrithik Roshan’s sister in Fiza, or Aishwarya Rai doing ditto with
Shah Rukh Khan in Josh, or Juhi Chawla-Mehta tying a raakhi to Akshay
Kumar in Ek Rishtaa and you’ll get my gist, right? (Did I hear some of
you sigh "Oh, brother!? Stop. The buzzword today is "Oh,
sister!" |
