The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed the Telecom Department to pay Rs 5,000 on account of deficiency in services along with the cost of litigation to a city resident, Mr Avinash Bawa.

According to the complaint, the consumer was the subscriber of the telephone (653495) which remained faulty for many day. Mr S.S. Sarna, representative of the complainant, disclosed that the consumer had lodged several complaints to the department regarding the faulty telephone but no action was taken. Mr Sarna pointed out that the telephone remained faulty for more than 21 days in a month which caused mental tension to the consumer and his business suffered. The consumer had demanded from the forum to direct the department to give rent rebate for the period during which the telephone remained non-functional and to pay Rs 5,000 as compensation.

The department pleaded that the complaint was based on false and fabricated facts and there was no deficiency in services. The respondent denied that any compliant was lodged on September 11, 2000, as per the fault card.

The forum observed that as per the fault card produced before the forum, the telephone remained faulty for more than one month from June 26 to July 27, 2000, and after that the telephone again remained faulty.
