Try to be ‘professional winner’ in TV shows

Hello kids and welcome to our weekly chat.

Fluppy: Hey guys, what would you want to be when you grow up?

Windy: Hippopotamus!

Fluppy: Stupid! I mean what do you wish to do for living?

Cliparti: I guess I’ll become a software professional. I want to earn lots and lots of money.

Fluppy: Even I want to be a millionaire. I can’t decide which is the easiest way to earn crores.

Windy: Best is to take part in KBC. Answer just 15 simple questions and take home a crore.

Fluppy: Yes, that’s a nice idea. With other programs on air like "Chappar Phaad ke" and others in the pipeline, this sure sounds a good way.

Cliparti: But mister, these are not simple questions and nor is this way an easy one. It takes years of learning and retaining to answer these questions.

Windy: But I don’t think the winners have ever prepared themselves for KBC.

Cliparti: Yes, they might have not prepared themselves keeping in mind these programs. But they are some real knowledgeable persons.

Fluppy
: So knowledge is more important.

Windy: Yes. You have to be well aware of everything. Everything that is happening in the world or has happened in the past.

Cliparti: Basically if you increase your interest in general knowledge, you are sure to be a winner.

Fluppy: So, now it’s been decided. I’ll be a professional winner for all these type of contests.

Cliparti: Ha, Ha! There is nothing called as professional winner.

Windy: Moreover you don’t become a winner by playing games all day long.

Fluppy: Then how do you become a winner?

Windy: Well, you must increase your knowledge in all fields.

Fluppy: And how do you suppose we can do that?

Cliparti: Read the newspapers and your books properly. You can also take part in brain pop or read ‘Tell me why’ series. You can find more about facts around you.

Windy: Yes, to begin with, do you know why the wind blows or why we sneeze? Why does it rain or why do airplanes fly? Why does the moon change shape? Leave it. Do you know how a CD works? Do you know there are 31, 557, 600 seconds in a year?

Fluppy: No.

Windy: To find all this and more, log on to www.findoutwhy.org/findoutmore.htm. You should surf these kinds of informative portals if you really wish to improve your general knowledge.

Cliparti: General knowledge should cover all aspects. Not just science, history but also music, art, technology, health, astronomy and lots more.

Fluppy: This is getting tougher.

Cliparti: It’s not tough. It’s just a matter of creating interest for knowledge within you. Once that interest is there you’ll be curious all the time, wanting to get more and more information.

Windy: Yes, then the more you know, the more you’ll want to know.

Cliparti: Have you heard about www.brainpop.com?

Fluppy: What is it?

Cliparti: That is a good health and science, technology portal. It also deals with health and science movies. This interesting site is for information and educational purposes.

Windy: Dr. Universe is also a good person to contact for all your queries. If ever in doubt, log on to www.wsu.edu/DrUniverse/contents.html. For all curious minds who want an answer to their mind blowing questions, Dr. Universe is the answer.

Cliparti: You should also participate in various quiz activities.

Fluppy: Yes, quiz is learning the fun way. But where do I find such quiz?

Cliparti: At http://www.syvum.com/squizzes/science you’ll find these quizzes. Recommended for various age levels, there will be various topics that will be covered. Be it on water, air and atmosphere, land and geology, living world, inventions, discoveries, measurements, ecology, biology, chemistry, atomic structure, gravitation or metals, all this and a lot more. You can also try other subjects. Be it geography, history, english, math, everything is here.

Fluppy: This surely would cover a wide range of subjects. I think they ask questions on wild life too! Who will give me that information?

Windy: Don’t you watch animal planet on Discovery channel?

Fluppy: Only sometimes. My younger brother has to watch cartoon network all the time. I wonder when will he grow up?

Cliparti: You don’t have to wait for that. Log on to Discovery.com and you can view animal planet but also discovery health, discovery school, travel channel, or discovery store. Find out about destinations, adventure, world’s best and travel all on discovery.com.

Fluppy: Now, if I go through all these sites you’ve talked about today, do you think I will be a professional winner?

Cliparti: At least you can then aspire to be one.

Windy: Just going through will not help. You really have to know everything in it.

Cliparti: After knowing all that’s in it. I can guarantee for sure that you’ll positively develop an interest in all that’s happening around you. And then there will be no looking back.

Windy: Come to think of it, it’s really a good way of becoming successful in life. Success will automatically bring you riches.

Cliparti: So guys, what are we waiting for?
