Sphnix: In Greek mythology Sphnix was a monster, half woman and half lion, which killed all those inhabitants of Thebes who couldn’t solve the riddle which it asked them. The riddle was "Which animal walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening?" The answer is Man — he crawls as a baby, he walks erect when he is young and uses a stick in old age. When Oedipus answered the question correctly the Sphnix killed itself.
