Tribune News Service

SAS Nagar, April 19
Reacting strongly to the statement of State Education Minister, Mr Tota Singh regarding decentralisation of the process of conduct of the examination process of the Punjab School Education Board for the benefit of the candidates, the Punjab School Education Board ( Non-teaching) Karamchari Association held, a rally in the board premises here today.

The leaders of the employees said the minister’s statement was aimed at dividing the employees and not mitigating their problems. They said the move to set up four centres and sending employees from the Board would not be allowed at any cost. They said if the government was for welfare of the employees, it should fill vacant posts at the district book depots.

Last year the union leaders had opposed the move to send the employees at the headquarters to the field. In June last year some union leaders had been in the field as a punishment for having gone on strike . The board management had then refused to bow to the pressure tactics of the union.

Now the statement given by the minister which was aimed at reducing the inconvenience of the people coming from far flung districts to the board headquarter. Meanwhile, the union today also demanded that the daily wage and contract employees be regularised in light of the notification issued by the Punjab Government. The members of the union would wear black badges tomorrow.

Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, April 19
The Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed the state of Punjab to file an affidavit giving details of the action taken on the report of Faridkot’s District and Sessions Judge prepared after the father of a murdered Sub-Divisional Officer alleged that the prime accused in the case got himself hospitalised during the trial owing to his relationship with two Punjab ministers.

In a letter addressed to the High Court, Bimal Kumar Kaushal of Gurbax Colony in Patiala had earlier claimed that his allegations regarding the accused remaining in hospital for eight months were proved true by the Sessions Judge after he conducted an inquiry into the matter.

Giving details, he had stated that accused Gurpreet Singh, close relative of Punjab ministers Gurdev Singh Badal and Sujjan Singh, was admitted to Government Hospital in Faridkot with the connivance of jail authorities.

Going into the background, he had alleged that his son, Ashwani Kumar, was murdered by Gurpreet Singh, working in the same department as junior engineer, in conspiracy with three others. He had added that all four were sentenced to life imprisonment by Ludhiana’s Additional Sessions Judge on May 26 last year.

Directing the filing of an affidavit, Mr Justice R.S. Mongia and Mr Justice K.C. Gupta of the High Court fixed April 30 as the next date of hearing in the case.
