Unique spinal surgery at DMC
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, April 1
Mr Darbara Singh (40), a paralysed man, who had lost all hopes of walking again, is looking forward to leading a normal life, thanks to a unique surgery performed on him by Prof N.K. Aggarwal at the DMC last month.

Addressing a press conference here today, Dr Aggarwal said that Darbara Singh had fallen from an electric pole while repairing wires and sustained major injuries and broke the five vertebrae of his spinal column. As a result he lost sensation in the legs and could not sit or perform any normal function. Earlier, such patients were condemned to their fate as paraplegics.

The latest method of treating these patients is by using titanium implants. Dr Aggarwal stabilised and fixed vertebral column of Darbara Singh with titanium implant. This implant was used by Dr Aggarwal for the first time in India.

Mr Darbara Singh has already improved a lot as sensation has returned to his legs. The deformity on the back has also been corrected.
