PGI employees’ demands discussed

Chandigarh, April 1
Demands regarding backlog promotions, anomalies in the second cadre review report implementation and higher pay scales to medical technologists, besides other issues, were discussed at the meeting of a committee constituted by the institute body of the PGI, here yesterday.

Demands pertaining to anomalies in the cadre review, implementation of part B of fifth Central and fourth Punjab Pay Commission, hospital patient care allowance and parity between the audiology speech therapists and other medical technologists were also part of the two-hour long discussions. Detailed discussion regarding non-existence of promotional policy for the employees in the PGI was also held.

Kochhar is IMA President again

Dr G.S. Kochhar was unanimously reelected as President of the Indian Medical Association, Chandigarh State Branch.

Prof J.D. Wig (Surgery, PGI), Prof Arjun Das and Dr Anil Kumar were elected as Vice-Presidents; Dr Nitin Nagarkar as Honorary Secretary; and Dr Shyam Bansal as Honorary Treasurer of the IMA Chandigarh branch. Dr Alka Sehgal and Dr Rajan were elected as Honorary Joint Secretaries; Dr Ashok Attri and Prof J.G. Jolly as Working Committee members and Dr T. Singh Sethi, Dr P.N. Thapar, Dr B.R. Jain, Dr Biren Suri, Dr A.S. Bhatia, Dr Ajay Gupta as Central Council members.

Dr O.P. Sharma and Dr Jagdish Chander were elected as Chairman and Secretary of the IMA Academy of Medical Specialists. Dr Neeraj Kumar and Dr C.N. Malla were elected Director of Studies and Secretary, respectively, of the IMA College of General Practitioners.

Admn win Samuel Banerjee Trophy

Narinder Kwatra played havoc for the Press club XI who were beaten by eight wickets at the hands of the Adviser XI in the annual cricket match between the Chandigarh Administration and the Press Club for the Samuel Banerjee Trophy played at the cricket stadium, Sector 16, here today.

The club, after winning the toss, elected to bat first. Charanpreet Singh provided a flying start as he scored 68 runs. The Pressmen reached 167 for six wickets in the stipulated 25 overs. The bowling of the UT Home Secretary, Mr Raminder Singh Gujral, who bowled five overs for 26 runs and claimed one wicket of Ajay Banerjee thus breaking the opening partnership of the club. Then the club lost four quick wickets, however, Sunil Datta hitted in the end.

In reply, the Adviser XI openers — Narinder Kwatra and Dr Raman Abrol — belted the Pressmen all over the place. Dr Abrol was very harsh on the bowling front as he hitted 37 runs in 26 deliveries. Rajesh Deol provided the break to the club when he had Dr Abrol caught in the deep. One more Adviser XI wicket fell as Daniel Banerjee was caught at short midwicket by Gurmeet Singh off the bowling of Charanpreet. Gujral once gain stood between the scribes and the Administration and he in the company of Kwatra took the score beyond the target in the 20th over.

Prizes were given away by Mrs P.S. Banerjee, wife of the late Samuel Banerjee. Narinder Kwatra was adjudged the best all rounder. Charanpreet Singh, R.S Gujral and V.K. Bhardwaj were adjudged the best batsman, best bowler and best fielder, respectively. Earlier in the morning, the Home Secretary inaugurated the match.

Cricket meet
The Khalsa Cricket club overpowered the Bedi Cricket club by eight wickets in the Vth UT League Cricket Tournament match played here at the Gursagar grounds on Sunday.

In another match, the Energetic Cricket Club beat the Seventeen Cricket Club by eight wickets, while the XI Star Cricket Club got the better of the Connect XI by 177 runs.

Brief scores; Ist match: XI Star: 259 for two (Raj Angad 102 n.o., Anshul 70, Mannat 43). Connect XI: 82 all out in 15.3 overs (Vijay Kumar 26, Jatin 4 for six, Balwar Pooni 2 for nine).

IInd match: Seventeen CC: 58 all out in 17.3 overs (Jagjit Singh 19, Navtej Singh 3 for 11, Ajay Kumar 2 for six, Sominder 2 for 11, Ashutosh 2 for 23).

IIIrd match:Bedi CC: 141 all out in 32.3 overs (Arpinder Bedi 45, Harpinder Singh 21, Ajay Disodia 20, Jagdish Dhawan 17, Gurpreet Sonu 5 for 25, Radhey Shyam 3 for seven) Khalsa CC: 144 for two wickets in 20.3 overs (Gurmeet 55, Vineet Soni 44 n.o.).

Godrej club win
The Godrej Cricket Club outscored DYFIXi by 51 runs to sail into the semi- finals of the Ist Arjun Dass Memorial Cricket Tournament played here at Manav Kendra cricket ground here on Sunday. Arun Tuli of GCC scored 91 runs and later claimed four wickets for just 19 runs.

In another match, Kalsi XI was helped by Amarjeet Singh who scored 71 runs and bagged two wickets for 22 runs thus his team beat Cable Network Systems Xi by 47 runs to move into the semi-finals.

Two DSPs to be transferred

The UT Administration has finally given a go-ahead to the proposal for appointing Mr S.S. Randhawa and Mr Surjit Singh as the Sub Divisional Police Officers for the Central and the East subdivisions, respectively.

The transfer orders for the police officers of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police were received in the Police Headquarters yesterday. Confirming the transfers, the UT Inspector General of Police, Mr B.S. Bassi, said that the said police officers will be taking over the new charge on April 3.

It may be noted that Mr Randhawa was at present holding the dual charge of Police Lines and as DSP Traffic, while Mr Surjit Singh was in charge of the Crime Against Women Cell. The two posts of the SDPO’s had fallen vacant following the promotion of the previous incumbents — ASP HGS Dhaliwal and ASP Sagar Preet Hooda as Superintendents of Police. While Mr Hooda has been transferred to Arunachal Pradesh, Mr Dhaliwal has been promoted as the SP Operations, Chandigarh Police.

It is also learnt that Mr B.D. Bector, DSP, Special Crime Cell, will be holding dual charge of Crime Against Women Cell. DSP Asa Nand, presently in charge of the Police Control Room, will now also take charge of the Police Lines. DSP Security, Mr Vijay Pal will also be in charge of the traffic police.

Ban on sale of cut fruits

Panchkula, April 1
The sale of cut fruits kept in the open, besides the manufacturing and sale of ice candies, mineral water and aerated water has been banned in the district with effect from tomorrow. The orders to this effect were issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Mr S.K. Monga, under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897.

The orders states that the sale of all kinds of sweet, cakes, biscuits, breads, perched grains of all kinds (unless freshly perched) and all other articles of food including fruits and vegetables in cut state, sugarcane and fresh juices has been banned unless the articles are properly protected against contamination by dust and flies.

The sale of unchecked drinking water from water trolleys other than the authorised outlets has also been banned. The sale of ice, ice candies, aerated water sold through outlets under unhygienic conditions is also banned.
