Free check up of TB patients

Chandigarh, March 23
UT Administrator Lt Gen J.F.R. Jacob today appealed to the city residents to extend full cooperation in controlling tuberculosis in the Union Territory of Chandigarh. The UT Administration is organising a free medical check up of TB patients at Government Middle School in Colony No 4 tomorrow.

Gen Jacob called upon the public to come forward and help the UT Administration eradicate the dreaded disease by completing full course of treatment. Chandigarh Administration is going to launch the World Health Organisation and Government of India funded Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP) in the Union Territory.

The Department of Chest Diseases and Community Medicine, GMCH, Sector 32, is also organising a free medical check up camp for TB and respiratory disease patients on the World Tuberculosis Day Tomorrow. at Government Primary School, Colony No 5.Back

 

Health Dept gears up for Navratra Mela

Panchkula, March 23
Claiming that adequate arrangements had been made by the District Health Department for the forthcoming ‘Navratra Mela’, the District Health Officer, Dr Vijay Garg, said team of a Food Inspector and a Senior Health Department official would collect samples of food and water at the langar.

Besides, special training of employees to be involved with the task of distribution and cooking of food at the langar, a meeting of the shopkeepers of Mansa Devi would be called to ensure that hygienic items are sold and sanitation maintained near the temple premises.

With thousands of devotees expected to visit the shrine, the department has begun spraying medicine in and around the shrine to keep mosquitoes and flies at bay. A biologist will oversee the spraying of medicine in stagnant water.

For devotees, the department has reserved 10 beds each in General Hospital, Sector 6, which will be the base camp, and the Manimajra hospital with two ambulances would be put at the disposal of the mela authorities to meet any exigency.

AIDS awareness camp at Food Craft Institute

Chandigarh, March 23
An AIDS awareness camp was organised by the Food Craft Institute, Sector 42, here today. Dr Ajay Wanchoo of the Department of Internal Medicine, PGI, gave a talk on the “Anatomy of Virus” to the students of the institute. Dr Ajit Awasthy of the Department of Psychiatry, PGI, stressed on the need for higher moral values in one’s life. The talk was followed by a questions- answer session.

Earlier, an intra institute paper reading contest was organised on AIDS in which Pankaj Kumar won the first prize while Hardeep Negi and Deepti Jain won the second and third prize in Hindi category. Jagat Singh was given the consolation prize in the contest. In the English language category Amanpreet Singh won the first prize while Suhasini and Damleen Singh won the second and third prizes. Sandeep Kaur was given a consolation prize in this category.

Teams for junior carrom tournament

Chandigarh, March 23
Ramanpreet Pahwa of Shishu Niketan Senior Secondary School, Sector 22 and Shikha Nanda of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37, will lead Chandigarh team in the 29th Junior national and Inter State Carrom Championship to be held at Dehradun.

The team is: Boys: Taranpreet Pahwa, Dhruva Chakarvorthy and Sumit Chakarvorthy. Girls’: Pallavi Piplani, Eveleen Sidhu and Nidhi.

The pre-tournament camp is in progress and will conclude on March 27. Mr Ravinder Sharma and Ms Poonam Bajaj will accompany the teams as officials.

Cricket tourney
In the memory of Late M.M. Lal Jain, a former President of the Chandigarh Cricket Association, the Chandigarh Cricket Association will organise the first inter-school, under-16, cricket tournament from April 6.

Mr Surinder Singh Baijje, General Secretary of the Association which is affiliated to the Haryana Cricket Association, said the first phase of the match will be played on league basis.

Top teams from each pool will enter in the quarterfinals.

He said that entries for the tournament will be entertained till March 29.

The Chandigarh Administration today ordered that Ms Varsha Joshi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) cum Secretary, Chandigarh Housing Board, will relinquish the charge of Secretary, CHB.

The same has been give to Mr Gyanesh Bharti, SDM East. Mr Bharti was working as Secretary, CHB, till about 10 days ago when Ms Joshi joined after a long leave.

Ms Joshi will continue to work as CEO, CHB, in addition to this she will also work as the Registrar Co-operative Societies, the charge held by the Deputy Commissioner, Mr M. Ramsekhar.
