Dreams of gambling
By Vinaya Katoch Manhas

It is the child of avarice,

The brother of inequity,

and the father of mischief

Mark Twain

BE it the Pandavas in the Mahabharata, who turned from kings into paupers, or our Bollywood characters who have turned from paupers into kings, gambling has made it all possible in a day. Both hell and heaven, it is a vice condemned by every culture, yet practiced by all.

In dreams, whether you lose or win in gambling the outcome is not very good. To lose foretells of a disgraceful conduct, while to win signifies lowly pleasures at the expense of others.

Within the Indian framework, to dream of gambling in general foretells of financial loss. But a certain sect of theologists have specified certain gain according to the card in your hand, but only if you are playing it as a social pastime.

The ace signifies a dominating position within the society, the king portrays respect and the queen depicts power. The jack warns you of sugar-tongued people and the ten of cards of uncertain gains. One brings gains, but two causes confusion and disagreement. Three brings success on the job front and four success, but with lots of difficulties. Six portrays love relationships prospering and the number eight a lot of struggles. Nine shall give you strength of character and five sensibility.

However, if you see cards while playing for a stake, then you shall be involved in difficulties of a serious nature. If you lose while playing for money then you shall encounter enemies, if you win you shall be able to prove your innocence but with a lot of difficulty.

As per Western thought, playing cards portrays our ability to be open to chances. For a person to dream that his or her spouse is playing, then he or she will have a reason to doubt his or her good intentions. Even here, the card that one deals with has a significance. Hearts indicate emotional matters and relationships, diamonds represent material wealth, spades represent conflicts, difficulties and obstacles and clubs represents action, work and intelligence.

The king portrays human mastery and success, whereas the queen indicates emotional depth, sensibility and understanding. The jack represents impetuousness, creativity and adolescent energy. Psychologically, dreams of gambling indicate that we need to look at something in our lives that is figuratively a gamble, we may need to take risks, but in such a way that we have calculated the risks as best as we can.

Although here we have dealt more elaborately with cards as gambling but it deals with all types, be it dice or the races.
