Portals for fair sex

March 8 is International Woman’s Day. We bring to our readers a few portals dedicated to women.

www.oxygen.com

This portal for women has a lot of stuff on entertainment, health, sports and shopping. Important personalities behind this portal are Gerry Laybourne, Oprah Winfrey, and Marcy Carsey. The site serves women in an entertaining way. The Daily Essential section has sub-links to e-cards, horoscope, poll and contest. Featured stories are put daily on the Net in Today’s Focus section. This portal has 17 other sites under its wings with momsonline and thriveonline being the more popular ones. The site also has list of linked TV shows on its home page.

www.handbag.com

The site handbag.com was set up in October 1999. It aims to be a "useful place" on the Net for women and is one of the premier woman’s interest sites. The site is a 50:50 joint venture between The Boots Company and Hollinger Telegraph New Media. The portal includes expert features, advice, questions and answers combined with a multitude of online services, as well as free Web access, e-mail, news, information, interactivity, and online shopping. Visitors can have their questions answered and take part in online discussions with handbag.com’s team of experts. The home page has been neatly divided horizontally into sub-heads like food and drink, entertainment, discussion group, competition quiz, sports, horoscope and technology.

www.planetgirl.com

Planetgirl is a place where girls can come, mouth off their opinions and be themselves. You can get advice from your peers or an elder 20- something year old. The surfer can give advice too and earn points to win free stuff like gift certificates to her favourite stores. All she needs to do is keep coming back each week and do a survey, write some reviews on stuff like your favourite CD or film. The site claims to be a parent free site! "Only the girl’s opinion matters here, so relax, hang out and tell us what you think," says the home page. The portal also hosts content from a partner site, iEmily.com that informs about balanced health.
