Kawaldeep, Parambir are best athletes

LUDHIANA, Feb 17 — Kawaldeep Kaur Bajwa and Parambir Singh were adjudged best athletes in boys’ and girls’ section, respectively, in the 81st annual athletics meet of Satish Chander Dhawan Government College, which concluded here today.

Kawaldeep won five gold and one silver in 100 m, long jump, high jump, shot put and discus throw and a silver in 200 m. Parambir Singh bagged five gold in 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1500 m, 110 m hurdles and a silver in triple jump.

Mr Apinder Singh Grewal, Mayor, Ludhiana, presided over the closing ceremony of the meet and honoured star athletes of the college, Madhav Sund, who had won a gold, a silver and a bronze medal in the recently held All-India Inter-University Swimming Championship. Madhav has also lifted the trophy of best swimmer in the Panjab University Inter-College Swimming Championship held in Chandigarh last year.

The other sportspersons honoured were Mahavir Singh, Satvir Singh, Parwinder Singh Brar, Prabjit Singh, Sandeep, Parminder Singh, Nirmal Singh, Gurjot Singh, Sarbhar Preet, Ajay Kumar, Gaurav Jain, Touseef Ahmed, Harpreet, Jugraj Singh and Iqbal Singh.

The other results are: shot put: Ranvijay Singh 1, Amandeep Singh 2 and Parminder Singh 3; 110 m hurdles: Parambir Singh 1, Satbir Singh 2 and Harminder Singh 3; 400 m: Harmanjeet Singh 1, Manoj Kumar 2 and Harvinder Singh 3; discus throw: Ranvijay Singh 1, Gurdeep Singh 2 and Jagmohan Singh 3; 400 m: Parambir Singh 1, Satbir Singh Dhillon 2 and Guriqbal Singh 3; 4800 m cycling: Tirlok Chand 1, Sukhwinder Singh 2 and Pardeep Kumar 3. In the girls section: 200 m: Renu 1, Kawaldeep 2 and Aarti Sharma 3.

Rural sports
Veteran Teja Singh Grewal, a resident of Phalewal village, dominated the second day of the 28th Gujjarwal Rural Sports Festival at Guru Hargobind Stadium as he clinched a gold in the 200 m events in the above 70 years category.

The other results are: veteran race 200 m: Teja Singh 1, Ajaib Singh 2 and Bhag Singh 3; kabaddi: 52 kg: Latala 1 and Gujjarwal 2; 57 kg: Narangwal 1 and Sayan Kalan 2; second round in 62 kg: Dhulkot beat Ranian, Mehnamoga beat Gujjarwal, Gharachon beat Babbarpur; football: Guran beat Mehma Singh Wala A, Chaminda beat Ghugrana, Mehma Singh Wala B beat Pakhowal; basketball: Government College for Women, Ludhiana, beat Air Force Station, Halwara, 77-35, Gymkhana Senior, Ludhiana, beat Gymkhana Junior, Ludhiana, 49-25.
