2) I play a movie in my CD ROM drive in Windows Media Player. The picture was clear under normal mode but in the full screen option it usually becomes dull and unclear. Can I install SCALA multimedia software on my PC under Windows operating system or on any other? 3) How can I save a song from the Net to my Harddisk? — Surinder Ratol Dr Tribune: Regarding your first problem, I would like to say that you need not worry much about the settings of com 3 port as the default settings in base I/O port address is also correct. Moreover if you are able to connect the Net through this setting, you need not alter it. However, speed is not related to this setting. The speed of the Internet connection depends upon a lot of things. So, you should look for other factors, both internal and external, like line condition, modem settings, com port baud setting. If you are satisfied with all external and internal factors, then you may try and change the ISP for better results. Regarding the VCD problem, the output in full screen is normally blurred so it’s not a problem. All you can do is reduce the Window size for better viewing. Regarding the SCALA multimedia software, I have no idea about it. For saving songs from the Internet, you will find instructions on the particular site only. In a majority of cases, you can save a particular song by clicking on it together with holding down the shift key. This shortcut may not work on sites, which do not allow downloading of songs. I have a Celeron-500 assembled PC, 10.2 GB, 64 MB RAM. I have Windows ’98 as my operating system. When on the desktop, I click on MS Outlook it gives the message "A required .DLL file, BWCC32.DLL, was not found" Some other programs also give the message of files being corrupt. I want to know how files get corrupt and what is the solution for it? Is it due to lack of UPS? — Ashish Dr Tribune: It appears that your MS Outlook Express has got corrupted. There could be several reasons for it. You can solve this problem by reinstalling the Windows again. Though this problem cannot be pin pointed, but sudden rebooting due to power failure could be one reason. These days due to frequent power breakdown, it is advisable to use the UPS. I have Celeron 400 MHz processor & window me on my PC. When I send Email to any body my default Email address is sent along with it. Is it possible to hide it? — Karamjit Dr Tribune: You have not written, which e-mail client you use. Normally in a majority of e-mail clients it is possible to hide the e-mail address, as generally speaking, you need only SMTP and POP mail address, along with your name to configure the e-mail client. Depending upon the particular e-mail client you are using, you can prefer to omit e-mail address and thus will not be displayed in the mail sent by you. I regularly use the Net for surfing. A few months ago, I purchased my new PC. The Net hardware purchased was a 56.6 KBPS D-Link external data-voice modem. Here in our city, there is only one ISP, i.e. VSNL. The problem is that, many persons whom I know surf at a much higher speed in spite of their modem being an internal one. They get the connecting speed of nearly 50.0 KBPS while mine being a meagre 31.0 KBPS. Taking hardware cost into consideration, an external modem costs thrice their internal counterpart so do their performance is expected to be better. The modem on my PC is correctly configured and max speed is selected in spite of which I cannot get the performance as required. Also is it necessary that the modem should be the first equipment to be connected to the telephone line after which the telephones are to be connected. Also, connectivity and speed are sacrificed if the telephone lines coming from pole have joints. I don’t have a separate line for Internet i.e. my modem and telephone are connected to same line. — Gaurvinder .S. Nagi Dr Tribune: There are some misconceptions in your mind. Though it is better to get good connecting speed, but even the speed of 31 KBPS mentioned by you is not bad. Moreover, what’s more important than the initial connecting speed is the continuity of connection and constant speed. In many cases, people get phenomenally high connecting speed but their actual downloading speed either varies substantially or is quite low. Thus, if you are able to get good download speed, then you should ignore the initial connecting speed. Secondly, though external modems have their own merits over the internal modem yet for normal surfing even internal modem offer satisfactory results. If you use external modem it is all the more better in terms of better connectivity and overall usage. The low initial connecting speed should not dishearten you. Your modem is quite good and is worth its price. However, if you are not satisfied with
your downloading speed and feel that others are getting better
downloading speed than you, then you can look for factors like telephone
line condition, joints, extensions, loose connections quality of wires
etc. Since you have written clearly that your settings in computer are
correct, thus I presume that you have the optimal settings in your
computer for dial up networking. Regarding your query for connecting the
modem, it is absolutely not necessary to connect the modem in any
specific order. Also you do not need any separate line for the Net. It
is better to avoid more extensions and fax machine on the telephone line
on which you wish to connect the Net You can safely have one extension
and disconnect the fax during the time you wish to use Internet. As far
as the joints in telephone line are concerned, you should try to avoid
them and if possible, get the line replaced with a new copper wire
cable. |
