Hizb asks Sikhs not to migrate SRINAGAR, Feb 8 (PTI) — The Hizbul Mujahideen today condemned Saturday’s killing of six Sikhs here and appealed to members of the minority community not to migrate from the valley. Flaying what it called an ‘’orchestrated and a baseless propaganda blitz unleashed by government aimed at linking militants with the Mehjoornagar killings’’, a spokesman of the outfit, Mujahid Masood said: “The Hizbul condemns the killing of Sikhs and describes it as inhuman.” He said the majority community shared the “pain of the Sikhs”. In a statement, which appeared in local newspapers today, he alleged that the “the government-controlled media has launched a planned and baseless campaign seeking to create an impression that militants were involved in the killing”. Jammu and Kashmir Minister of State for Home Mushtaq Ahmad Lone today assured the Sikh community that the government would take every possible step for their security in the Kashmir. “Efforts are on to strengthen age-old and traditional communal amity and brotherhood, besides improving security arrangements, particularly in Sikh-populated areas,” he said after taking stock of the situation in the backdrop of the killing of six Sikhs at Mahhjoornagar here. Mr Lone, who visited Sikh inhabited areas of south, central and north Kashmir and held meetings with leaders of the community, referred to cordial relations and the support extended to them by the Muslim majority community from time to time. Describing the killings as an attempt to jeopardise the peace process initiated by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, Mr Lone hoped that the Kashmiris, irrespective of caste, colour and creed, would unitedly fight the divisive forces. Meanwhile, a Hizbul Mujahideen militant and a girl were killed and three suspected youths arrested in the Kashmir valley today. The body of Mohammad Maqbool Wani, alias “Mag Chini’’ was recovered by the police from Khachar Mohalla of Tral in Pulwama district of south Kashmir early today. The militant was apparently killed in a shootout which followed a militant attack on a joint camp of the police and paramilitary forces in the area last night. A girl was shot dead by militants inside her house at Zadoora in Pulwama district last night. The Special Operations Group of the local police detained two youths for questioning in uptown Srinagar last night. Another suspected person was arrested by the security forces from his house at Ganderbal in Srinagar last night. Residents of Ribon area of Sopore in north Kashmir today held a noisy demonstration against the security forces during a search and cordon operation in the area. Militants casued an ied blast near the Industrial Training Institute at Sopore last evening. However, no one was injured. Thirteen houses were gutted in a devastating fire at Wanpora in Anantnag district of south Kashmir during the preceding night. |

KVIB schemes
reviewed JAMMU, Feb 8 — The Chief Secretary, Mr Ashok Jaitly has called for greater focus on self-employment schemes in khadi and the rural sector, saying that these have an immense potential for employment generation. Addressing a meeting of the state-level monitoring committee of the Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) here yesterday, he ordered that a sub-committee comprising Director, Employment; Secretary; KVIB, and a representative each from the Jammu and Kashmir Bank, the State Bank of India, the Punjab National Bank and the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), be constituted which would ensure that all sanctioned cases were cleared by banksby March-end this year. Mr Jaitly directed that loan cases be pursued vigorously with the banks so that units were established without delay. He said formalities for getting loans under various self-employment schemes should be simplified. He suggested that margin money being provided by the KVIC for setting up employment generating units be sent through the KVIB and not the banks directly for better coordination and implementation of the schemes. Reviewing the performance of rural employment generation and special employment programmes being implemented by the KVIB in the state, it was stated that during the past three financial years, the KVIC had released Rs 3.30 crore as margin money to the Jammu and Kashmir Khadi and Village Industries Board for the purpose. |
