Dreaming of an eclipse

The natural occurrence of a solar and lunar eclipse in ancient times was looked upon in fear by one and all as a sign of the wrath of the gods on them and an indication of forthcoming tragedies, says Vinaya Katoch Manhas.

THE moon and the sun have always been powerful natural forces, which the world over men have revered since time immemorial. The natural occurrence of solar and lunar eclipse, in ancient times was looked upon in fear by one and all as a sign of the wrath of the gods on them and an indication of forthcoming tragedies.

Now, thanks to science, man is no longer in the dark as to the cause of these eclipses. Yet, man continues to follow certain religious customs and dogmas during either of the eclipses, and thus continues to be influenced by this rare occurrence of nature.

As per the Swapna Kamlakar, if a person sees either of the eclipses it is very unlucky and brings forth severe ill-health. To even see the photograph of an eclipse in your dreams is unlucky. Once, a 17-year-old boy had a dream wherein he saw himself eating the sun and swallowing it.

As a result, there was darkness all around. Such a dream predicts a great person in the making who shall rule over people and shall also earn a lot of riches. Here, darkness is not to be confused with blackness. According to Hindu mythology, the cause of the eclipse determines the meaning to be attributed to it.

As per western thought, a solar eclipse denotes temporary failure in business and other secular affairs. There may be certain disturbing occurrences within the family, but nothing very serious. Seeing the lunar eclipse predicts severe diseases. In the near future, after such a dream you have to be very careful regarding your health.

Psychoanalytically, dreaming of an eclipse signifies our fears and doubts about our own success. Others around seem to be more able than us. They seem to be occupying more importance than us which does not allow us to excel at what we are doing. It portrays our depressed state of mind and our acceptance of the fact that we are being overshadowed by others. If we try to analyse the earlier dream psychoanalytically then it portrays the dreamer’s attempt to try and remove the person or the object which is acting as an obstruction to his path of success.

At a spiritual level, an eclipse represents a loss to faith in the Lord and in oneself.

Let’s conclude with an example. In a dream, a 22-year-old student of BDS saw a lunar eclipse in his dream. The weird thing about his dream was that he did not see it happening but saw it end and the moon appearing again. So the interpretation of the dream shall undergo a change. As per this dream, ill-luck and ill-health shall come your way but there shall be a quick recovery as the moon again appears and the eclipse finishes.

Psychoanalytically, it shows the person’s subconscious probing him to get over his submissive attitude and overcome the obstacles in his path of excellence. Such a dream also portrays his submissive nature and his inability to face competitions and challenges.
