AIDS awareness camp held

CHANDIGARH, Jan 12 — members of the lions club rose along with the staff of the skova dispensary, Sector 31, acquainted the residents of labour colony with the facts about aids at an aids awareness camp held at the colony today.

the president of the club, Ms Renu Bali, distributed pamphlets among as many as 80 women of the colony. She exhorted the women to safeguard their families against the deadly disease by taking suitable measures. She said awareness was the most potential weapon against this disease.

Panchkula to have Olympic Bhavan

CHANDIGARH, Jan 12 — An Olympic Bhavan having multi-purpose hall, fitness centre, sports hostels for boys and girls, media centre, sports library, swimming pool, conference hall, sports club secretariat and offices is coming up on three acres in Sector 3 in Panchkula. The bhoomi poojan will be performed by Abhey Singh Chautala on January 14. From an aerial view, the building resembles the five Olympic rings.

Mr M.S. Malik, Director-General of Police, Haryana, and secretary-general of the HOA, says the expenditure or the construction of this bhawan has been projected at Rs 7.2 crore. He adds that the HOA will be the first association in the country to have its own bhavan of this kind.

Mr Malik adds that Maruti Udyog Limited will donate Rs 10 lakh to the HOA, which will be utilised for the promotion of sports in the state. The HOA will organise a seminar on rural sports on January 14 in association with the Haryana Sports Department and the Panchayat Development Department, Haryana.

Press Club XI win
Vinay Choudhary who took six wickets, including a hat-trick, led Press Club XI to a 59-run victory over Punjab DPR XI in a friendly match played at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium here. Press Club XI were 109 all out in 18.1 overs. Akash Ghai scored 75 runs. In reply, DPR XI were bundled out for 50 runs in 13 overs. Vinay Choudhary took six wickets. Rajesh Deol claimed two wickets.

Softball tourney
DAV College, Chandigarh, outplayed Government College, Ludhiana, while Arya College, Ludhiana, defeated SGGS College, Chandigarh, in the Panjab University inter-college softball (men) tournament played at PU grounds.

Black belt acquired
Shruti Singla of Panchkula acquired the choi kwan martial black belt in Mumbai recently, the examinations for which were conducted by Jugnu Nanda, chief instructor, India Choi Kwan Do Martial Arts.
