Wheat grass juice: A miracle on earth
By S.R. Mittal

MODERN man suffers from many diseases, because he lives far away from nature. From birth till death, dependence upon cooked food, a hectic life full of tension, inhaling polluted air and drinking polluted water is the way of life. To get rid of diseases, man resorts to poisonous drugs and chemicals. The results are known but we are blind about the results. Man adopts an escape route from diseases but becomes a victim of medicines. He forgets the basic fact that the body possesses self-healing properties, which right food helps in multiplying. The Greek physician and Father of Medicine — Hippocrates — once said "Let thy food be thy medicine". His reference was to natural food that can be employed to prevent as well as cure diseases. Juice extracted from fruits and vegetables, has great healing power and can cure a good number of diseases apart from preventing them. Out of many juices, wheat grass juice can cure almost all diseases.

Wheat grass juice therapy in recent years has been publicised and propagated by Ann Wigmore. She has written a beautiful book titled "Why suffer? The answer? Wheat Grass Manna".

Ann Wigmore, had practiced wheat grass juice therapy not only upon herself and her family members but on hundreds and thousands of patients suffering from different type of destructive diseases starting from skin eruptions to tumour and cancer. She runs her own sanatorium in the uSA where patients are kept on wheat grass juice therapy and training is imparted as to how one should start growing wheat grass plants and extract juice.

A panacea for many ailments: The best time to take wheat grass juice is during morningHundreds of patients, otherwise declared incurable by modern medicine have been successfully treated and have benefited by the regular use of wheat grass juice therapy.

In fact, disease in the body, irrespective of the name it might be assigned, is the result of toxaemia settled in the body. The toxaemia does not allow the vital force of the body to rectify diseased conditions. All this happens because of our poor living and eating habits and resorting to chemical-based medicines that finally destroy the body’s fighting mechanism.

The preparation technique

  • Seven pots measuring one square foot with depth about 3 inches be obtained and each one be marked as no. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 respectively. Soft earth is required for growing wheat grass but it should be free from chemical fertiliser. Some compost manure can be added so that the wheat grass may grow well with nutritious elements. Natural manure of cowdung is best. It is also available in the form of packets from the market.

  • Better quality of wheat with big grains is preferred because it is always broad and full of juice. 100 gm wheat should be sown at a time. That will give us 100 gm wheat grass equal to 4 to 6 oz of wheat grass juice.

  • Wheat should be soaked in water for 12 hours, then wrapped in a wet cloth and tied for about another twelve to eighteen hours to allow it to sprout.

  • Spread the sprouted wheat on the soil bed in such a way that the grains are close to one another and form a bed. Cover the grains with thin layers of earth and sprinkle some water on it. On the second day, sow wheat in pot no. 2 so on. Only one pot per day has to be prepared. Sprinkle water on each of the pot every day. Two to three sprinklings may be required during the hot months. Remember to water the pots late in the afternoon or early in the morning.

  • The pots should not be exposed to sunlight for more than three to four hours.

  • On the seventh day, about five to six inches long wheat grass will be ready in pot no. 1. Cut the grass from pot no. 1 with the help of scissors as close to the root as possible. Wash the plants and extract juice. Remember that the ideal nutritional value in the form of chlorophyll is highest when the plant size does not exceed six inches.

  • After cutting the grass, the pots should be emptied and exposed to sunlight. Fresh earth should be used. However, used earth once is charged for four to five hours in the sun can also be reused. Fresh compost manure must be added.

  • Chewing of wheat grass is extremely beneficial. It should be chewed till fibre waste turn white in colour. The juice must be extracted immediately after cutting and washing the plants. It should be consumed soon after it is extracted. After few minutes, its medicinal properties begin to disappear. As some of the volatile substance contained in it turns into vapour and disappears.Vitamin ‘C’ contained in juice comes into contact with oxygen in the air and oxidation takes place. Chlorophyll contents also gradually becomes less active. Therefore, it should be consumed without delay. However, it is important to note that juice must be sipped. The saliva in the mouth is thoroughly mixed and then it helps to get it digested and properly absorbed in the body. It is preferred to take wheat grass juice by itself. However, those who cannot take it for reasons of taste may add orange juice or some other palatable juice to it with added salt and spices.

  • During the initial stages, one should take limited quantity of juice. One can start with 25 to 50 mg of wheat grass juice per day and increase it up to 90 and then even 250 to 300 mg per day. Once the disease is cured, it is proper to continue with the consumption of wheat grass juice but in a moderate quantity. In some initial cases, a patient may complain of nausea, vomiting sensation, cold, diarrhoea, fever etc. In such cases, one should take rest and the quantity of the dose should be reduced.

  • The best time to take this juice is during morning hours on an empty stomach. One should not eat or drink anything for at least one hour. This is because the juice gets absorbed in the intestines within half an hour after it is taken. Those who cannot take it in the morning, can take it at some other time when the stomach is empty.

  • It can also be used on wounds, skin eruption, cuts, boils etc. because of its antiseptic properties. It can also be mixed with bathing water to maintain the health of the skin. For skin diseases, the massage of this juice yields considerable relief. It is also used for sterilising instruments by scientists, physicians and surgeons.

It is important to note that this juice contains vitamins ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘E’ and ‘K’ in large amounts. In fact, wheat grass contains six times more vitamin ‘B’ complex than is contained in wheat and is anti-cancerous. It also contains laetrile or vitamin B17. An authority on wheat grass, Dr Laetrile Cabus, had observed than wheat grass contains a hundred times more laetrile than wheat. It also contains carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Many cancer patients have been cured with laetrile.

However, the most vital ingredient is chlorophyll. It is contained in chloroplast that produces nutritious elements with the help of sunlight. Therefore, in the words of Dr Burshar, a scientist, it is a concentrated solar energy. Though this substance exists in all green plants but wheat grass is perhaps the best source for obtaining chlorophyll.
