Dreaming about death For dust thou art, and unto dust tho u shalt return. — Old Testament. IT is a nightmare to see someone dear to you die in your dreams. Even so, such dreams are very common, often provoking feelings of fear and guilt within us. Contrary to a layman’s fears, seeing the death of anybody in your dreams stands in good stead for the person whose death you saw. It predicts a long life for him or for yourself if you dreamt of your own death. As per Hindu thought, to dream of giving a bath to a corpse is very lucky for the dreamer as it is thought to be a very pious act. Some person shall do you a good turn after such a dream. If you eat food with a dead person in your dreams, then all your sorrows shall vanish. If you see the dead
as laughing, it portends tensions and worries, but to see them crying
predicts freedom from worries. If a dead person talks to you then it
means that some wish of that person has been left unfulfilled. If you
see the dead dressed in white and bedecked in jewels, then according
to the Swapna Pradeep, it spells a favourable turn of events
for the dreamer. But if you see them bald, it spells ill-will for the
whole family. |
Let us take a dream of a young girl who had undergone a hysterectomy and was quite depressed, due to the hormonal changes within her body and the sudden realisation that she would never be able to bear children. She had frequently begun to dream of a scene where she was running, but with great difficulty, slowly she saw herself fall down and realised that she has died. She started crying for herself in the dream and woke up crying in reality. In this dream, the sign of her dying
does not portray her death wish but rather her realisation that she can
no longer bear kids — the death of her wish for motherhood. Her crying
in her dreams and waking up crying in reality indicates the trauma that
she is going through. The girl should be encouraged by the parents and
the counsellor to vent out her feelings. |
