Dream theme

What colour do you see?
By Vinaya Katoch Manhas

"I am a 23-year-old woman. Yesterday I dreamt of a rainbow in a green valley. Then suddenly all turns red and at that moment I see myself at my home as a bride sitting on a bed with red sheets and red flowers."

IN such a dream it is not the symbol of the rainbow or the bride but rather the prominence of colours which is striking. The dominant colours of this dream are red and, to an extent, green. Both are vibrant colours portraying life and energy. The bridal symbol, when associated with it, gives it the significance of vigour and sexuality.

Such a predominance of colours in dreams is not unusual, whether they are symbolised through flowers, clothes or as seen in the above dream through the presence of the colour as a symbol itself, it has both traditional and scientific significance.

As per ancient Indian texts the dominance of particular colours in the dreams predicts the kind of illness the person is likely to suffer from in the near future or is suffering from at present. People with excess of bile and presence of bile related problem tend to have yellow as the dominant color in their dreams. Those with excess of cough have the predominance of white in their dreams. Those suffering with blood related problems such as hypertension or piles have the predominance of the colour red in their dreams.

Astrologically, red predicts good health whereas green symbolises consolidation of money and blue a peaceful family life. White brings forth respect and highly-esteemed positions. Where yellow predicts a jealous nature, black foretells of some ill that shall befall you and brown bodes ill for your character.

In fact colours are achieving great significance in the medical world due to their relation with one’s health. You can maintain health by keeping in mind the interpretation given to each colour scientifically. Black is the amalgamation of all colours and portrays negativity and judgement. Blue is the prime healing colour and suggests relaxation, sleep and peacefulness. This is the healing colour for cases of hypertension and hysteria. Yellow is the colour connected with the emotional self. White is the colour of innocence, spiritual purity and wisdom. Green represents life and is the colour of harmony. Brown is the colour of earth, death and commitment. Orange is a cheerful colour and denotes happiness and independence. Red is the colour of vigour, life, strength, energy and sexuality. Violet is the colour of nobility, respect and hope, its purpose is to uplift. Turquoise is the colour of calmness and purity. Some religions take it to be the predominance of white and blue, and kings are mostly shown wearing a violet cloak or robe.

By interpreting colours, you are able to detect not only the physical problems but also the dominant aspects of your personality. In fact colour therapy is a branch of medical science wherein through your own colour spectrum your health problems are detected, both psychological and physical. With the use of lights of various colours, the problem is also cured.
