Nilesh, Neeraj hog limelight

LUDHIANA, Nov 25 — Nilesh Rane of the Railways and Neeraj Kumar of the Navy hogged the limelight yesterday in the 44th National Shooting Championships at PPA, Phillaur, by setting new national records in the 50m rifle 3 position in the men’s and junior men’s categories, respectively, scoring 1,134 points each.

The other shooter to make a mark was Shweta Chaudhary of the Indian Airlines. She created a new meet record in the air pistol 10m junior women event by scoring 380. She also equalised the national record of Harvinder Kaur by scoring 477.80 points in the final shoot-off.

The other results are as follows: 50m rifle 3 position: Team championship: Army 1, Navy 2, CISF 3; Junior men: Neeraj Kumar of Navy 1, Sushil Ghale of Army 2, Sudhir Kumar Singh of Delhi 3; Men: Nilesh Kumar 1, Arun Warshi 2 and Vishwajit Shinde 3 all of the RSPB; Civilians: Jaspreet Singh Dhaliwal of Punjab 1, Vivek of Kerala 2, Sibi u of Kerala 3.

Air pistol 10m: Junior men: Shweta Chaudhary of Indian Airlines 1, Sonia Rane of CISF 2, Seema Tomar of IA 3; Team championship (women): CISF 1, IA 2, Army 3.

Hoshiarpur lift overall trophies

LUDHIANA, Nov 25 — Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala regions lifted the overall trophies in the men’s and women’s sections, respectively, by scoring 37 and 32 points in the 18th Punjab National Bank Punjab Inter-Region Sports Meet here today.

J.P. Saroya of Hoshiarpur was declared as Best Sports Man, while Satya Hans of Kapurthala bagged the title of Best Sports Woman.
