Exhibition by textile students

LUDHIANA, Nov 24 — To celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of Sobha Singh, a three-day exhibition on textile painting and printing was inaugurated at Sobha Singh Arts College, Civil Lines, here yesterday. Nearly 35 students participated in the exhibition. The exhibits included painted handkerchiefs, dining table cloth, table mats, cushion covers, shawls, bed sheets, towels, suits, dupattas, sarees, jeans, T-shirts, wall hangings, CD player covers, baby sheets and baby quilts, painted with fabric colours. 

For printing, various techniques like block, screen and spray printing were used. Nozzle painting was done on various suits, wall hangings and sarees and shawls. The chief guest on the occasion was Ms Inderjeet Gill Vasisht, principal, Government College for Women. Professor N.P. Dhanda, director of the institute, and Ms Renu Chopra, principal, informed that they had received several orders for wall paintings, sarees and suits from visitors to the exhibition.

Annual function celebrated at GNIPS

LUDHIANA, Nov 24 — Students of Guru Nanak International Public School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, presented a colourful cultural programme on the occasion of an annual function last evening.

The programme began with a shabad recital, followed by a welcome song. Class I students presented a musical item ‘Marriage party’. Tiny tots danced on various Hindi and Punjabi numbers. Group dances, including garbha and Rajasthani dance items were performed. Mirza and qawwali were presented by students of senior sections. Students danced on various Hindi songs like Maine payal jo chhankai, Phir bhi dil hai Hindustani and Ik pal ka jeena and English numbers Barbie girl and Brazil.

The programme was rounded up with gidha, performed by students of senior sections, and concluded with the National Anthem. The chief guest on the occasion was Mr D.S. Sidhu, Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals). Others present included Ms Rajinder Kaur, Chief Medical Officer, Professor G.S. Sarna, general secretary of the school management.
