Conference on radiology

LUDHIANA, Oct 30 — The Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital organised a state level conference of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association, at the Dumra Auditorium here yesterday.

About 100 Radiologists from all over the state and Chandigarh gathered to discuss the latest advances in the field of radiology, angiography and MRI. The focus was on new technology which was rapidly replacing conventional procedures.

Dr R.Goyal, Head of the Department of Radio-Diagnosis, delivered the welcome address. Mr Prem Nath Gupta, secretary, managing society, DMCH was the chief guest on the occasion. Mr Gupta said that DMCH would try to provide MRI facility at the Department of Radio-diagnosis and promised that the institution would provide the best possible financial and moral support to the department. Dr Goyal, chairperson of the conference, said that judicial use of the diagnostic modalities available was of paramount importance.

Dr N.Khandelwal, president of the state branch of the association, in his address said that the profession was facing a lot of problems. There was a need to upgrade the knowledge of radiologists. Malpractices by unqualified people should be checked. Dr Khandelwal emphasized the aim of IRIA which was to organise such conferences which provided a platform for sharing the latest information. Dr Kavita Saggar presented the vote of thanks.

A scientific session was organised in which Dr Sanjiv Sharma of AIIMS delivered a lecture on the topic ‘Relevance of angiography in the era of CTA and MRA’. Dr Paramjit Singh of PGI, Chandigarh, talked about ‘Magnetic Resonance Cholangio Pancreatography’. A lecture on ‘Advances in CT Technology and their Clinical Applications’ was also given. Among those present on the occasion were Dr Parambir Sandhu, Dr Sudha Suri, Dr Sudesh Khanna, Dr P.D. Jain and Dr B.L. Jain.

Kuljinder shines in athletics meet

BADDOWAL (Ludhiana), Oct 30 -Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Jawahar Nagar, boys stole the show in the Ludhiana Zone II Inter-School Athletics Meet held at Government Senior Secondary School, Baddowal, today. Kuljinder Singh of GSSS, Jawahar Nagar, remained in the limelight by winning gold medals in 800 m and 5000 m categories. Yadivnder Singh won a gold medal in under-19 boys shotput even, while Swaranjeet Singh bagged a gold in long jump (under-19 boys). Inderjit Singh won silver in the 800 m boys category under-19.
