Seminar on prostatic diseases

LUDHIANA: Dr Baldev Singh Aulakh, a renowned Urologist and head of the Urology and Transplant Unit of the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital said the prostatic diseases were on the rise as a natural consequence of increasing population of the aged. Speaking at a seminar on prostatic diseases, organised in collaboration with leading pharmaceutical company - Pfizer Limited, at hotel Grewalz here, he stressed the need for greater public awareness about these diseases and greater public inclination to seek urologic help. He said these diseases lead to obstruction of urinary flow, increased frequency, urge, incontinence and narrowing of urinary stream. Dr Aulakh remarked that not every patient with prostatic enlargement or other symptoms of prostatic diseases needed treatment. Some could simply be kept under observation, others could be treated with drugs, whereas only 15 to 20 per cent needed surgery. Dr S.B. Khurana, former principal of DMCH was the chief guest of the function, which was attended by more than 100 doctors, including urologists. — FOC
