Prescribe and proscribe Prescribe: To order, advise, direct or appoint. The doctor prescribed some vitamins to improve his appetite. Proscribe: To condemn, prohibit or outlaw. The doctors proscribe smoking. Callous and Calloused Callous: emotionally hardened, insensitive. His callous attitude towards his children is very distressing.
