‘Soyabean products are ideal food’
From Our Correspondent

LUDHIANA, Oct 6 — "Human health depends upon what we eat, how much we eat and when we eat". This observation was made by Mr Upender Singh Grewal, Mayor, Ludhiana, while inaugurating Soya Fresh Point, an innovative sale point for nutritious and cholesterol free soya foods at Pakhowal Road, here today. Mr Grewal said that in today’s life style, which does not involve physical labour, the consumption of sugar and cholesterol has to be drastically reduced, the processed soyabean products are the ideal foods from this point of view.

Mr Grewal appreciated the efforts of young farmer-entrepreneurs, Mr Devinder Singh and Mr Kuldeep Singh, who were preparing soyabean products like soya milk, soya paneer, soya bhujia, soya biscuits and marketing them directly to the consumer through Apni Mandi, health clubs, students’ hostels and hospitals. In this way they are not only earning a good living for themselves but also serving the community by popularising health giving foods.

Dr S.S. Gill, Additional Director Extension Education, said that processing of agricultural products is the dire need of the day to diversify the farming by reducing area under wheat and paddy and diverting to other crops like maize, soyabean, groundnut etc.
