Seven year wait for
phone connection
Tribune News ServiceLUDHIANA,
Oct 6 — A resident of Raqba village in this district has finally won a legal battle against the General Manager Telecom Circle, Ludhiana, after a long wait of more than seven years.
The District Consumer Redressal Forum today directed the GM, Telecom, to provide a telephone connection from the Ludhiana Telephone Exchange to the complainant Harchand Singh within three months of the receipt of the order.
According to the copy of the orders received here today, the complainant had applied for a telephone connection in February 1993 to the SDO, Mullanpur, and deposited an amount of Rs 1,000. However, persons who had applied later than him were given the connection. Later, he learnt that his case has been transferred to the Jagraon subdivision Exchange, but he had still not got the connection.
The Telecom Department contended that switching the area of village was done by the Directorate, Delhi, in June, 1994, from Ludhiana to Jagraon.
After hearing both the parties, the forum found the contention of the complainant as correct and ordered that as the village falls in the Ludhiana tehsil, the Telecom Department should provide the connection from the Ludhiana exchange.
